I was unable to install iTunes v9 on my Laptop, it runs Vista. The specific problem was that iTunes insisted on finding a Drive that wasn't available.

This message often relates to a problem with Apple software update.
Go to Add remove programs and find Apple Software update. Try repairing it.
Select Change>>repair.
If that works, try installing iTunes.
Otherwise try uninstalling any instance you find of Apple Software update. That probably will not work if repair didn't.
Next try an installer cleanup.

i tried it, but i have tried all those steps already, and there were no files left to uninstall in the windows cleanup utility

When you say you uninstalled everything, do you mean all iTunes related programs as in the method below:
==reinstall with cleanup==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install ...

yes i already did all this with no luck. i dont know if this is any help, but the reason the itunes download messed up is because my computer shut off while downloading the update.

If you are still there, I have just had a heads up about a similar issue to your being caused by problems with permissions on the the Programs file folder.
Post abck if you want to explore that avenue.
