I previously had a wireless router that died and decided to get a modem and use my Time Capsule as the wireless router only. I've bought a Netgear DM111P v2, which is an ADSL modem only (no ethernet router, no wireless capability). If I plug the modem ethernet connection directly into my MacBook I can see it's working fine and can connect to the internet. I got my DM111P (v1) working by giving it an ip address of 172.36.1.1 and a subnet of 255.255.0.0 I then set the TC to "Share a Public IP address" - and told it to distribute DHCP address in the range 172.16.1.? again with a subnet of 255.255.0.0 This seemed to work - but I was never happy with it, so I swapped to a Linksys AM200.
