Thread: Can't decide where to go for our anniversary...PLEASE HELP!!
Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by frustratedinc...
My husband and I will be celebrating our 5 year anniversary this December. We didn't get to go on a honeymoon so we wanted to do something special for our anniversary this year. Our budget is pretty tight, (no more than $2000 for everything: gas/flight, hotel, food, spending money...etc.) but we cannot decide where to go. It can be a short weekend getaway or a whole week trip. We are ...
Okay, I just remembered that a person in our party has a seasickness problem that is pretty bad, even on the smoothest of boat rides. So, the ferry and the islands are out unfortunately. Any other ideas than just the Hocking Hills? I would like to split my time between the Hocking Hills and somewhere in Northern Ohio. Any pristine lake erie beaches on the mainland?
Thanks-
OhLyyn suggested the site Shores and islands (or something like that) it's a great site. I go to Ohio every year for Cedar Point but a couple of years ago we wanted to do some other stuff too. That website has great info on it. I found most of the places we visited in the book I ordered from that site for free. I was then able to come back here to ask more specific questions about ...
How do the beaches there compare with the east coast beaches on the Atlantic Ocean? Im trying to figure out whether to bother with the Ohio beaches or do something else. Cedar Point sounds really awesome, but we're not really into rollar coasters.
Thanks-
IMO Cedar Point beach is probably one of the best beaches on Lake Erie but as far as comparing it to the East Coast I don’t think there is a comparison. You also have to stay at one of Cedar Point resorts to use the beach or be visiting Cedar Point though. We are a Roller Coaster family so we go there every year. The Lighthouse in Marblehead was nice. Not really a beach – more rocky but...
I have seen one of the Great Lakes before. Lake Ontario in Upstate New York. Cedar Point just dosen't seem like its for us. I would like a beach. But, im most interested in outdoor activities like hiking, etc and the outdoors.
Thanks-
Me and some friends from Columbus will be there Fri-Mon, is there anything not to miss during Labor Day Weekend? I haven't been to the Island since I was 16 with my parents (just over 30 now). Also the 1st Buckeye football game of the season is this Saturday at noon, do the bars get filled up quick or will we be able to get good seats to watch the game and where would the best place ...
There is a pretty cool antique mall on South High st (on the south end of german village).
Here's a good article about it:

Thank you all! We had a blast in Columbus Ohio . Unfortunately, there is only so much time in a weekend. Got a reservation & Moved over to marriott & Thurs & Friday I shopped at Easton while hubby worked. So Convenient! On Saturday we took many of your suggestions & just had a great time! Headed over to German Village...First we did the "tourist thing" & went to Schmidt's Sausage haus ...
Flying into Burke Lakefront Airport on a military plane that will be in the air show. Need to know where to rent a car and a hotel in a good area somewhat close to airport. We will be staying the night of the 4th, then leaving for Detroit and returning for one night on the 7th.
Not sure if we have to rent a car at the Hopkins airport. How far are the two airports from each other.
Well you've said the magic word -- "leeks"! Ever since I saw "A Hot Dog Program" I've wanted to go to a midwestern hot dog house. Except for Nathan's in NY, I tend to think of the art of the hot dog as midwestern. I don't think DC has a place that's dog-centric, unless you count the street vendors or Ben's Chili Bowl, which has dogs and 'smokes, but also burgers and chili...
The Christmas Story House is always popular this time of year - this is the house used in the movie "The christmas story" - very popular movie. The Cleveland Zoo has an indoor rainforest which is nice to visit too - interesting animals and activities. Also, you can visit the cleveland Metroparks for some of their outdoor activities - they also have the zoo. www.clemetparks.com In Sandusky, which is about 1.5 hours west of...
Provident packages are outrageous by any measure. Consider Dayton or Columbus or Louisville for your flights or driving if you have 4-5 days in total to dedicate to the trip.
Thank you so much for so many details!! The largest beach in ohio sounds great!!! The numerous steps with 4 kids don't, lol......the fairport harbor sounded nice to see the lighthouses because i LOVE to tour lighthousees! Worth a drive to me, but my gps only said 54 minutes for that route i think. I'm going to look into the Lorain Lighthouse, i didn't even know there was a closer lighthouse tour. a trip to the lighthouse by...
It could snow but probably won't. I think we had about 8 snowy days last winter. We had about 23" with about 10" of that in one storm. Chances are not high that you'd pick a snowy day but it's possible. I know Sharonville is safe, as is Blue Ash (an area with tons of hotels). I believe the hotel areas of Covington are safe. I don't believe hotel guests in Covington experience any problems. I believe there...
I'll admit, I've never gotten the Montgomery Inn hype. I haven't been to the one in Dublin , but I've never had a meal at either of the ones in Cincinnati that was anything special. Honestly, I'd rather have City BBQ (Columbus-based) or the BBQ at the North Market any time than Montgomery Inn.
I like the icewine suggestion but that could be difficult to transport; you'd have to pack it very carefully and safely and put it in your checked luggage; you can't board with it. Alternately, the museum gift shop does have some very nice things so that would be a great 2nd choice.
