Thread: Can this be done? Has it been done?

Started 1 year, 5 months ago by kb0zos
I know that if an individual had a Ruger Mark II and it was suppressed you can hold the action closed while firing with your thumb. In a related area... on a compact pistol such as a Kahr or Kel-Tec would the pistol fire the single shot with the slide locked (mechanically) in place. What about a 1911 design, would a "lock-up device" allow for a single shot without damage or safety issues?

The problem with a more powerful handgun is that you are stressing the frame in a way it was not designed to be stressed, only firing a great number of rounds, thousands, maybe even tens of thousands would be required to properly see if there was an issue or not. Bill

The slide on a 1911 doesn't unlock untill the bullet is leavein' the muzzle....Despite or maybe I should say "in spite of" untold hours spent testin' , thinkin', discussin', debatein', arguein',...., I still can't say if the bullet must be completly out of the barrel for the slide to open but the slide can;t move rearward untill the bullet has lost some or maybe all of its' forward pull on the ...

You could "probably" lock a slide without immediate damage. The S&W Vietnam SEAL "Hush puppy" Model 59 used a special slide lock to lock the slide shut, but the stop and the notch on the slide were subject to excess wear pretty fast. The 1911 has a rather small stop notch on the slide, and the Kahr isn't all that big either. I think the bottom line is that its possible, but no auto has a slide ...
