Thread: Can Cats Have SA?

Right now is not a good time to get another cat. The reason we have Gir is because my MIL passed away recently and left her cat and 2 dogs to us. So now, we have 5 dogs and a cat (not to mention my 16 year old SIL). I do not think we can take on another animal at this time. Ah, ok, that explains it. I don't think that Gir understands that his former owner is dead. All he knows is that she is gone, and this has given him some anxiety. Like the other poster said, depending on how long you've had him, it'll just take him a few months to realize you won't go away never to come back (the way he thinks your MIL did). I had problems when my Ava passed. Mommy tried everything, and I went on Buspar for a few weeks. When Minka arrived, I started to act better and went off the meds. The new cat just misses his former owner and just needs to know he won't be left again. Once you bond, hopefully he'll settle down.
