Thread: Cam Timing Marks on 1984 380 sl

I bought the car from a family member in 06 and the car had just had the timing chain, tensioners and guides changed (at least that is what was paid for and on the bill). The car can't have 15000 miles on it since then and I have been hearing the dreaded timing chain noise on start up and it has been getting worse. I have not driven it the last 3 months because I dont want it to turn into a major...

I appreciate the reponse. If the other parts were replaced less than 10000 miles ago are you suggesting that it might be just a bad tensioner? Is the Iwis chain oem or aftermarket? What would you suggest? I dont mind doing the chain, guides and tensioner over again if I need to.
