Caffeine and adrenaline I was told a while ago by a medicine- or microbiology-studying relative (I don't remember which one it was) that caffeine doesn't work by itself, but only by reenforcing the effects of adrenaline, which may explain why sometimes the coffee ...

Caffeine has stimulant properties due its ability to reduce adenosine transmission in the brain. Not related to adrenalin...
