Typically, the fall brings out the 2010 international expansion announcements. We've seen UA , DL , US (adjustments) all outline their plans, but none from CO who was typically very good at announcements. So far, all we've heard is OGG and the resumption of seasonal ATH . CO is usually good for 2-3 destinations annually even in a slow 2009 they had: EWR > PVG , IAH > FRA , ...
Quoting FUN2FLY ( Thread starter ): So far, all we've heard is OGG
When did OGG become an international destination?
My uneducated guess would be CO hasn't announced anything for international expansion because with the Star Alliance beginning at the end of October they were focused on making that a very smooth transition. With the alliance up and running ...
Quoting FUN2FLY ( Thread starter ): I thought EWR > MUC would have been announced at the Star event in NYC last week.
CO requested slots for new MUC - EWR service for S10
CO 106 EWR MUC supposed to land at 07.50
CO 107 MUC EWR supposed to depart at 09.20
daily with 764
Let's wait and see what will happen
Quoting IAHFLYR ( Reply 1 ): CO has a much broader alliance now into international markets than with Sky Team which could also play into the lack of any expansion announcements.
I think this is a big part of it.
The Summer 2010 IATA schedules conference will be held in Vancouver in the third week of November. (Sorry, I forget the exact dates.) It may be that CO wants to wait until that is concluded before releasing anything.
It may also be that Mr. Smisek wants a fresh look at one or a dozen things.
I think they probably need to see where the economy is headed.
If a 757 can handle it, I wouldn't be surprised to see Newark-Vienna. It's a small O&D and business market but Austrian Airlines has a lot of connections to Eastern Europe and the Middle East. This didn't work for US Airways, so I'm sure that Continental would proceed with great caution.
Newark-Seoul, to connect with ...
Quoting FUN2FLY ( Thread starter ): Any thoughts? I thought EWR > MUC would have been announced at the Star event in NYC last week.
LH already flies this route, so IMO IAH - MUC (with the 762ER) would nicely complement EWR .
Quoting LIPZ ( Reply 2 ): CO requested slots for new MUC - EWR service for S10
Indeed.
Apart from that, many interesting...

very likely, esp. since CO is likely to make a number of network moves as it repositions from being a Skyteam to a Star ...
Quoting MasseyBrown ( Reply 39 ): I guess any 764's would have to be new production; it's probable that used 763's would be have a cheaper total cost for a fairly brief interim use. Fairly brief = 3 years maybe? I don't mean the 787's will be further delayed by 3 years, just that 3 years might be the economical lease term for CO 's purposes. But on the other hand, leasing some 763's would mean flying the odd...
Quoting LipeGIG ( Reply 38 ): In my view the potential development for Brazil is CO trying to get 7 frequencies to fly EWR - GIG in the 2010 Draft for 14 new frequencies Brazil-USA. This could even allow CO to extend a flight to markets like MVD , ASU ou SCL but would need to be from a new service rather than the existing ones which are performing well. With the success of IAH - GIG , i believe EWR - GIG is the potential new route for Brazil,...
Quoting Conti764 ( Reply 29 ): Definitely agree with what you're saying. EWR - BRU has been a 772 in the past during the summers. My point regarding the possible shift of IAH - FRA to 772 comes from the fact that the flight departs around the times IAH - AMS and IAH - LHR , both currently served with the 772. If they don't consider upgrading EWR - BRU to 772, would they consider a 2nd daily flight?
Quoting STT757 ( Reply 46 ): A batch of 777 "A" models could be a possible short term solution What happened to the SQ or CX 777 "A" models? IIRC some discussion here on the forum CO was close to picking them up. Pretty good idea to get 4 of the for Air Mike and then transfer those 764's to EWR .
Quoting EwRkId ( Reply 35 ): What about some more 764's? I guess any 764's would have to be new production; it's probable that used 763's would be have a cheaper total cost for a fairly brief interim use. Fairly brief = 3 years maybe? I don't mean the 787's will be further delayed by 3 years, just that 3 years might be the economical lease term for CO 's purposes.
Quoting Conti764 ( Reply 42 ): On a side note: what is the best solution for southern domestic pax wanting to go to BRU ? Fly a longer domestic flight to catch the flight to BRU at Newark, or fly a shorter domestic flight to IAH to transfer to a longer IAH - BRU flight? Given that widebodies tend to be more comfortable than a narrowbody, that international service levels are higher than domestic ones and that many domestic flights have no...
Quoting FUN2FLY ( Reply 47 ): What happened to the SQ or CX 777 "A" models? IIRC some discussion here on the forum CO was close to picking them up The problem is that those have RR engines, while CO 's fleet is GE . China Southern has four or five GE -powered 772As for sale, but some rumors say they're in a less than perfect condition.
Quoting ManekS ( Reply 54 ): The chances of SIN losing a carrier is higher than it gaining one these days! I mean we've lost Austrian, Air New Zealand, SAS, Swiss, Finnair and more in the last few years and it partly has to do with SQ wanting to operate they're own aircraft to those destinations. I know the chances are minimal, but I'd love to see CO here as well. Theres no reason for CO to fly to SIN . They will probably...
The following is the slot request for 2nd daily service between FRA and EWR , with 757. 1130 A CO 124 28MAR 30OCT 1234567 75W EWR 1330 D CO 125 28MAR 30OCT 1234567 75W EWR Looks like CO also want to upgrade new FRA - IAH from 764 to 772 next summer.
