Thread: Bring Your Own Access - BYOA :: AOL :: think broadband

Started 1 month, 4 weeks ago by MrSaffron
Question: On migrating away from AOL, do you just need to tell them to reduce your account to a BYOA account so that you can access the portal over your new provider (obviously ask for the MAC too). basically does BYOA still exist, or do you have to pay for it now? Eh? Anyone can access the AOL portal from anywhere, if you mean here http://www.aol.co.uk/, including access to AOL members' emails and account info. 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg BB

It's not called BYOA anymore but when you leave you can ask your current sign-in/email username to be converted into a freemail account which will give you access to your email using webmail on their site. You can also still use their software apparently, although some say that the software won't allow them in (read that somewhere else) even if they're fine signing in into the website....

I know that, its keeping the account alive after they've migrated to another ISP that is the issue, i.e. to allow time to let people know the new address etc Andrew Ferguson, andrew@thinkbroadband.com www.thinkbroadband.com - formerly known as ADSLguide.org.uk

Nowadays, it's the (free) "AOL Web Services" and in normal circumstances (e.g. you haven't breached something!) it continues to be active under your existing AOL screen-name, even after you have cancelled your "AOL Access Service", i.e. your ISP BB with AOL. AOL Web Services includes AOL's Webmail which can also be ...

Are you able to keep all the user email accounts that you have or just the master one? If god had meant man to fly he would have given him more understanding bank managers! 3 Macs, 1 Netgear 834GT with DGTeam firmware, 1 Apple Timecapsule

I see no reason why the e-mails shouldn't be kept. I've got one that goes back years - but I can't remember the password and they will only send a reminder to the alternate e-mail address - which I left about 6 years ago and doesn't now exist. Bet it's packed with spam by now (unlimited storage, you see!)
