Thread: Brake Master Cylinder Wiring

Started 1 month ago by spicolibus
71' Bus Popup I have a leaking m/c and also the wires on the rear switch were severed. I got a new set of wires for the switch from a local VW shop. The old wires have one red, one red/black, and two black wires. The new wire set up I got have one red, one red/white, and one black. I connected the wires even though they don't match. I connected the two blacks to the one black and the...

IN the process of putting on a new canvas on my 71. Slow but sure. What an ordeal. My question is what is the proper procedure to lower and fold the canvas so it doesn't tear? Especially around the hinged arms. My Old canvas was so torn up I didn't really care how I closed it ..but I definatey don't want to tear this one. Thanks

Not as I understand it. Depending on your problems though you may get away with the front bush and the shift coupler bushes at the gearbox. Re-set the shifter and try. Craig _________________ 1974 Westfalia 1800 AW Stock, Twin 34PDSIT

You can not replace the bushings on the rear shift rod without removing the engine and transmission. The shift rod must be removed, it only comes out through the back, right through the center of the engine and tranny. It's gotta come out. _________________ My '79 Westy Rebuild Thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3 49881

Or, how about just replacing the front bushing to solve your problem? Edit - on re-reading your above post, maybe you already have? I jumped the gun. _________________ Darryl -------------- '78 Westy, Boston Bob built 2.0 L, FI, Pertronix, MSD 6

On a '71 you can. Don't know about yours. _________________ The best thing that anyone can do for their Bay is get the Bentley service manual. Without it the bus is pretty much doomed. ------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- 71 Superbug 71 Westy

Definitely not. The middle bushing is attached to the rear shift rod. The shift rod comes out the back of the Bus, you can't get it around the engine and transmission without bending the shit out of it. _________________ My '79 Westy Rebuild Thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3 49881

i have tried to get wahler to do this but they have never replied to any of my calls or emails. i wrote them a lengthy treatise on why they needed to again manufacture this part but it just seemed to fall on deaf ears. i gave up trying but i am not against trying again. perhaps it just takes someone who is fluent in german to use the telephone and establish first contact with an actual person ...

Hi, It's been a while, I hope everyone has been enjoying their rides this summer. I'm having a bit of an issue with installing a headunit into my glove box. I have a new Kenwood excellon HU with Polk DB 6.5" in the door and 3.5's in the dash. My issue is that the sound fades out "gets chunky" when the motor is running. Usually happens after 5 minutes or so. This does not ...

I had a Pioneer cd player in the glovebox of my '74 Riviera for 3 years with no overheating problems..... _________________ My '79 Westy Rebuild Thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3 49881

I put a oven thermometer in my glove box with the windows rolled down and sun beating on the dash- 150F. _________________ The best thing that anyone can do for their Bay is get the Bentley service manual. Run away! That bus screams $500 to me and even then I'd want to have a really close look at it first.

Not necessarily a dumb question, but one that had been covered so many times as to make one nauseous. No Bus ever produced EVER came with an auto stick transmission. Fully automatic Buses weren't available until 1973. Search the forum, then rethink your decision to take a step backwards with your Bus. The Type 4 is what belongs in there, a Type 1 simply isn't as good. I don't care how cheap or plentiful the parts are. I...

The only advantage that I am aware of to using a typical engine adapter with more than two arms is that it makes it harder to accidentally drop the flywheel or clutch cover when removing or installing them. Other than that the extra arms do you no good and may get in your way. I have a home made two arm adapter, with an extra removable arm that will pick up a third bolts hole once the case halves are bolted up. In theory it should greatly...

The first thing involved is if the lighter socket is hot all the time or only when the key is turned on. The solar charge has to go to the battery. Reason I mentioned it is that if someone added the cigarette lighter they could have wired it either way. I did my bug one way and the bus the other way. Both ways have benefits and also shortcomings.

This poor bus deserves a second chance, but not for $3500. Everyone has already diagnosed what is obviously wrong with it from pictures, so who knows what's wrong that you can't see just by looking at it. Hopefully you can get them to knock that price way the **** back and get it for a reasonable amount. 74s are awesome because of that full rear bench

My bus had a plywood battery tray when I bought it. I left it there for years.
