Thread: Bluray Player Audio Support Comparison Chart

Started 1 year, 5 months ago by adidino
DD "legacy", DTS "legacy", and LPCM are not included in the chart since player support is mandatory for all BD players. Special Cases: (F) Player requires a firmware update to enable this codec. (L) Player outputs LFE channel -5db lower than normal when outputting PCM over HDMI (see owner's threads) (LF) Player had "LFE bug" as (L) ...

Is this still accurate? For example, Shouldn't the Denon DVD-3800 be "complete" processing across the board?

adidino, people from the Panasonic BD50 thread are reporting having to lower their speakers by about 5 dB. The LFE bug wouldn't be so unique if it weren't for the fact that at least one report was for the analog out! http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...4#post14316 474

Most players with dts-MA decoding seem to have "DTS Master Audio Essential" decoders which require a separate digital bitstream connection to an AVR for ES, 96/24, and Neo:6 decoding. Does anyone know which players have Master Audio decoders that can also handle the legacy extensions?

Yes, and some may prefer to use LPCM over bitstream for a number of reasons (secondary audio, some avr's can't post-process/decode concurrently). There is a need on these players to force LPCM even to an HDMI 1.3 avr for these reasons. The whole secondary audio issue is a bit nebulous in respect to what exactly these newer players are doing. Both the panasonic and sony players drop from 7.1 to 5.1 when mixing secondary audio. The...

So cool about the editable form. Had to search around for the Update History Worksheet, the link for it is in the botton left corner of the page. I've wanted to make some updates for a while, but it looks like anything I knew has already been updated.

"How again can you tell that 48khz is being fed to the DAC's for analog? I have an s300 but I simply can't remember." You have to open it up and measure it. The S300 uses PCM1791 DACs. Pin 1 on those DACs is the Left/Right clock. That clock cycles once per sample. IOW that clock runs at the sampling rate of the signal going to the DACs. R051 is connected to Pin 1 on the PCM1791. Measure that clock with a frequency...
