the most common way to test for mange is a scrape.. the vet takes a razor and scrapes the skin where they think the mites are then puts it under the microscope and looks for the mites.. did the vet tell you it was mange after they did the skin scrape? if the vet didnt do a skin scrape there is no way of telling if its demodex mange or sarcoptic (sarcoptic is contagious to humans and animals , ...

allergies and a staph infection could make him scratch and lose fur to.. you would be better off to get the mange scraping, as there are 2 types, and since sarcopic is contagious to humans its better to find out which one he has,and put him on the ivermectin, keep giving the antibiotics in case he has a secondary infection from the scratching. get goodwinol shampoo and neem oil and bath him as ...

intact dogs that smell females in heat get stressed from that.. since he is intact there is probably afemale in heat close by.. plus how old is he? dogs can get stressed for odd reasons, could be fleas, could be a female in heat, could be that he is maturing and his hormones are kicking in too. also, he wont be able to be neutered if the mange is that bad, surgery will stress him out more , so ...

Maryellen wrote: also, up his salmon oil as well, that will help him too... Salmon oil is the same as fish oil right ? Hes about 8 months and a 1/2 right now... and we do have a cat thats in heat badly..he just keeps trying to get at her... So is it only caused by stress or inherited ? Or can it come from dirty places too ?

The Fate replied 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Actually I just answered my own question.. Salmon oil is different from fish oil How many capsules do you give ? Also am I able to give vitamin C at the same time Im giving the antibiotics ?

Maryellen replied 3 months, 2 weeks ago
stress and inherited.. since your cat is in heat that is stress for him. plus he is still young and his immune system is not mature yet. i gave one vit c which was 500 mg to my mange dog with 5 squirts of salmon oil with his antbiotics when i treated his mange. and definitely dont breed him as he will pass it on...

Just an update** The antibiotics seem to calm the scratching down a bit but not sure if its doing much more than that... But as said on previous posts i probably wont see any change withing a 2 -3 months anyways... The doc said if he dont stop scratchin take him in and we would need to sedate him for a skin scrape... So i guess we playing the waiting game, i wanna atleast get his coat shiny... ...

I also wanted to commend you for changing your mind on breeding him. I had this exact same conversation with a girl yesterday in regards to her 9 month old male dog. She did not care about...

Oh boy! He's a pistol I would begin by expecting calm behavior before he exits the car. This may mean driving places knowing full well you aren't getting out Is he clicker trained at all? If not, you can use marker words. Stand by the door, with the window slightly down. Ask for eye contact (or just wait for him to offer it) This may require you to stand there for, like, ever. Once he stops barking and bebopping around, hopefully...

Ditto... Maryellen has it down... Only one other suggestion... you need to teach your dog to sit still during veterinary visits. If he does have mange, he will need a scrape every 2 weeks to monitor the progress of the disease. A little training can go a long way to save you a lot of $$. Mange can be cured in 4 weeks, or it may take 12, and ivermectin has enough side effects that you'll need to know when you can or cannot stop giving the...
