"Birthday Greetings, bottle of wine", Paul Mccartney had it right when he first sang that memorable phrase, December 6, 1966. The band finished the recording later that month. With that thought in mind, some of my favorite wine geek friends joined me for a great, birthday celebration! I am sure this will come as a surprise to some of you, but the theme of the night was Bordeaux....
Re: Birthday Greetings & bottles of wine, 66 Palmer, 89 Clinet, 83 Palmer, 82 Pichon
Happy Birthday Jeff!! Nice notes, and especially the 89 Clinet, one of my favorite Bordeaux.
Happy Birthday Jeff. Sounds like a great night, but possibly a rough morning. Glad to see the 89 Clinet is drinking well. Several bottles I had over the past 3-4 years showed very closed and I have not opened one in 12-18 months or so. I need to revisit it as this is the second time someone has recently stated that it is drinking well. Any idea how long it was decanted?

A very fun dinner. Way too much food (as always), but great conversation and some lovely wines.
61 Gruaud Larose is a really nice wine. I find it to be one of the best values in 1961 Bordeaux. 95 Pts
86 Gruaud Larose is OK, but still a 1986. I definitely didnt like this as much as Jeff did. I see some potential, but find it overly austere and hard. 90 Pts...

Due to a limited number of decanters all the wines were decanted for sediment and poured without much decant time. The only exceptions were the 1986 Gruaud Larose and the 1955 Taylor -- both of which Jeff double decanted in advance.

Re: Birthday Greetings/bottles of wine 66 Palmer/89 Clinet/83 Palmer/82 Pichon/70 Pt wine Todd... I brought a bottle of Krug to start the night off. In fact, you will be proud of me, I popped 2 bottles of Champagne over the last month, doubling my consumption for the year! Frank... Only 95 Pts? My comment deserves a much higher score! __________________ "That's the problem with drinking, I thought, as I poured myself a drink. If...

Frank, I agree with your supposition that what you like in the clinet (tight like a duck's butt) I find unevolved and what you disliked about the Angelus (flabby and aggressive) I find ripe and sexy. Perhaps this translates to our tastes in women? Then again, I don't think many would call April "flabby" (at least not if they liked living :-)). However, I'm guessing you find a duck's butt quite...

Birthday Greetings, bottle of wine", Paul Mccartney had it right when he first sang that memorable phrase, December 6, 1966. But Jeff, Paul also once said "Strawberry Wine."
