It looks like the bad economy is having some favorable effect: http://www.connpost.com/ci_13572040 STAMFORD -- The low bidder to build the first phase of the New Haven rail yard submitted a $125 million bid to do the job, well below the $291 million the state expected to budget to complete the facility, according to the state Department of Transportation. O&G Industries of Torrington ...

Well NHV isn't the best city either and they managed. Of course there is a lot more traffic at NHV though ...
I just got home from Railfanning at the Mamaroneck Station this evening I saw Amtrak Trains and alots of Metro North Trains going thru the station. I took pictures and videos of one of the trains both on the CT bound and NY Bound Platforms. BTW I saw train raceing like when a Northbound Acela Express bound for Boston went by first and then Metro North Train from GCT second and then later I saw a ...
District i was no where near complaining, the comet 5's are fine. I just find the ML's extremely comfortable and I like riding in them alot better than I do the comet 5 and it would be nice to ride in one all the way up to harriman in one instead of just for 5 minutes between SEC and NYP. And seeing how all the morning trains and the earlier evening return trains are PACKED to the point where you...

We (Metro-North) take counts twice a year (not just 2 visits per year, but two counting programs per year, with multiple counts of each individual train...
If they add a train in that time period, the last eastbound of the night is going to be darting in and out of sidings for his trip on the single track!
The M-N F40s pop up from time to time all over the NJT system. I'm not sure of all of the NJT numbers, but I know one is 4123. Another, I believe, is 4116. The blue cards in these units reflect the new ownership.

Wilton , Branchville , Bethel (near Shepards), and Danbury I was wondering are they going to lengthen any of the passing sidings or keep most of them the current length? other than creating a Bethel passing siding the existing sidings will stay same size. no room without getting into someone elses property. as for lenght the...
Check http://www.danburybranchstudy.com . As I remember, some former sidings will be restored (Bethel Lower?), and some lengthened. The full-build option, which is many more orders expensive then some of the lesser build options, just does not give the same return in time savings, ridership, etc. I doubt they'll be anything that qualifies as double-track when the line is improved. Plenty of topics out there on this. Remember, this line,...
The highest MAS on the Hudson in 90 mph. Even though some engines with train are rated for higher speeds, 90 is the highest track speed allowed. The only time I've heard of the speeds being increased beyond the MAS is on test trains by Form M authority, obviously then not carrying passengers.
I am guessing that the waterworld trains have been canceled since it is December and MNRR may be having less problems with leaves on the rails. correct! With most of the leaves down already, running both trainsets regularly wouldn't make sense. That still doesn't mean they won't be run occasionally. I heard a Diesel Loco horn, not a MU Horn this past week. well, if you scroll up a few posts, the 106 was reported in Brewster...

As I went to bed at home I heard a Horn sound as it went thru White Plains but does anyone know what kind of Loco was pulling it? Could you be any more vague??? You heard a train horn sometime after 9:30 through White Plains...could be anything from a scheduled train (electric or diesel) to a...
