I can't praise this film enough ,and I think Cameron pretty much covered all bases, but when the first colonists arrived on LV426,how come they (or any subsequent colonist ships) Didn't pick up the Space Jockey's warning beacon just like the Nostromo did.
I mean wasn't it an ongoing signal that had been transmitting for eons when the crew of Alien picked it up.
There's a deleted scene (re-inserted for the Special Edition) which depicts the discovery of the derelict by the Jordens. Since we and the Nostromo crew last saw it, it's been damaged by volcanic activity, a lava flow having crushed it against a rock outcropping and ripped open its hull. Aside from considerations of visual interest, this serves as a justification for the acoustic beacon being ...
To my recollection, the derelict was no longer transmitting the distress beacon, in a scene in the novelization of Alien Dallas presses some buttons on the Space Jockeys seat and the transmission ceases.
You know, I keep hearing that, but I've read the novelization several times (the one by Alan Dean Foster, just in case there was somehow another one that I'd never heard of,) and no such thing ever occurred. Shoot, the Space Jockey wasn't even *in* the novelization; they found the transmitter and scanned it, but Dallas never touched it.
I have been watching the first two Alien movies forever, and never knew the lava/derelict story. Is that in a novelization or something? Either way, it explains how the opening in the ship looks different when the Jordens enter it.
Also, does anyone have a link to O'Bannon's original script where he has his character's names before they were changed by Giler and Hill?
Come with me if you ...
I wouldn't have said it was important The ship just sunk down over time The Jordens don't get to the derelict cockpit which was a pity might have thrown some more light on the Space Jockey.Hopefully that will be re-addressed with the upcoming prequel.
DS97, I can't answer your ? specifically. However, about a year ago someone posted one or two movies before A1 and A2 which had many character names found in both A1 and A2. I checked and he was correct. So apparently a writer/director was paying homage to some book/novel which had an influence on him (BTW, AvP2 has a Dallas). In a similar vein their are a few obscure movies before A1 (Vampire ...

It's quite a bit different from the Alien we see on film. The basic premise is still there, and almost all the same plot points, but Giler and Hill really brought this story to life. Personally, I think if THIS script were to have been filmed, it would have been "good", but there wouldn't have been any sequels.
