Thread: Best Supporting Actress Race

Started 3 months, 1 week ago by musicboy
I think this will be the most interesting category of the year. Leading Actress race is kind of poor this year, but there are 2 films that will get all the attention in this one: Nine & Precious. Nine has a phenomenal cast full of divas and living legends, Precious has the biggest buzz and breakthrough performances. Mo´Nique : since Sundance her role as an abusive mother was a lock, everybody ...

I don't care how good Mariah is, if she gets the tag of Oscar Nominee I think I would throw up!

We have been talking about this extensively in the Predictions thread above, but this will for sure be the most crowded and exciting race this year! I am really starting to wonder if Nine will in face be able to get 3 slots for Cotillard, Cruz, and Dench. As great as that would be, I really hope that this scenario won't happen because it will really screw up what this category will be all ...

The buzz for Amanda Seyfried in "Chloe" is building -- that's a nomination I would LOVE to see.

I want to see Betty White too!!! My dream nominees: Marion Cotillard Judi Dench Amy Adams Vera Farmiga Betty White

I read some reports from early screeners that Marion Cotillard is the standout of the 'Nine' ladies and that Cruz is great and oscar-worthy as well. I can't wait to watch films this fall. I really hope see some names previous nominees like Julianne Moore and young newcomers like Anna Kendrick make it in the race.

I love Betty White too but to suggest an oscar nod for her in The Proposal is laughable. It was a stupid movie that was your typical canned Hollywood production.

Were you hired by Lionsgate to hit back at the people hired by Harvey Weinstein to bring down Mo'Nique? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Jilpen , November 15, 2009 04:32 PM

Not to be a party-pooper, but back to topic... quote: Originally posted by Scout: So, guys, is there anyone here who can stop Mo'Nique from winning? Kendrick? Laurent? Moore? Dame Judi? Or is she unstoppable? Mo'Nique seems to be the frontrunner right now. Precious just has so much buzz right now, and Mo'Nique is just riding along with it. The only other two people I could honestly see getting in the way would be Julianne Moore...

I don't want Julianne Moore to win because it is probably one of her typical white lady performances.

Well, that's large in part due to this award being MAINLY for what a consensus populated group deems the best for 1 performance, during that year. I do believe there have been quite a few instances where an actor/actress has won on the merit of previously disregarded work. But I think the academy tries to work at not sending out that message too consistently, and honor a highly regarded performance. Whomever that might be.

So, if you don't support Monique for BSA, you're a racist?
