Does anyone have a recommendation for the best sounding Yes-90125 CD?
I went through some old threads and some like the initial Atco CD.
Thanks in advance.....

Word. And the US release is identical to the first West German "target" pressing, and the one to have
The gentleman, Mr. Barry Diament, who did the actual mastering of the CD, has stated he prefers his mastering, with the CD's made in the USA at the Specialty Records facility (SRC). These are easy to identify, as they will have 'SRC' in the inner mirror band of the CD. As a note, Mr. Diament has made mention that he was not too keen on the original CD's pressed in Japan. Sorry, but I can't recall...
Scott,
I think the forum consensus, including Barry, now believes that 90125 was actually mastered by Joe Sidore. There is nothing conclusive except the "early" timeframe of release (relative to other Yes titles on CD).
This was discussed in the thread that describes the "essential" Barry Diament masterings (sorry, don't have a link, but it's easily searchable).

Is the mastering unique? Or is this a "pressing quality" statement? (not that there's anything wrong with that).

The vinyl (RL cut) smokes any c.d. out there. This is one example I use, when I show folks the difference between c.d. and vinyl sound. This album played digitally has way too much "glare". The vinyl brings the music all together on this one. Don't mean to TC here, but I had to mention my impression. I did not appreciate this album until I got a good vinyl of it.

Finally playing the gold CD and ... it's too flat for my ears. I miss the usual punch this album delivers. Guess I prefer the Atco/Rhino/Japanese mini-LP HDCD or recent remasters versions better. Wasn't expecting this verdict at all. Also, is "Changes" sped up or is it me?

I'm saying that it was remastered from the Rhino CD. You didn't notice the exact same bonus...
[quote=MikeP5877; I have an original vinyl that should be in great shape as I rarely played it. I need to dig that out.[/QUOTE] Just did a "Changes" intro shoot out with the WG/AF clip from this thread through my main system and the NM vinyl I bought last year for a dollar. Dig out that "RL" pressing, it's the winner in this comp. Better bass presence and this album needs that big Squire bass. I have...
