Thread: Benefit Negotiation Letter

Started 1 month ago by pcboy
Hi, I just got a job offer this afternoon, and have a question on how to negotiate for an extra week of vacation. Basically, I am happy with the salary, the only problem is they are only giving me 2 weeks of vacation. I understand there's no over time for this job, because the salary is very competitive. I really want an extra week, because I can be a workaholic at times... The manager ...

Ok, anyone else? How do you justify it? I am a 2008 graduate, so I have absolutely no experience in salary/benefit negotiation.

start off positive: thank you for the offer. i'm really excited to get started and really look forward to contributing to the team, blah, blah, blah. get into it: at my past position i had 4 weeks vacation and i would really like to explore the possibility of starting off with at least 3 weeks. end positive again: as...

I got a question. Is it 2 weeks or did they just say 10 business days? At my last job they put 14 days as vacation so I had assume I only had 2 weeks but it turned out it's 14 BUSINESS days so it's essentially a day shy of 3 weeks.

Unless your qualifications are amazing, you might be a bit in over your head. It might just be cheaper for them to hire someone else who would have the same experience as you (you're a 2008 grad after all) who wouldn't mind 2 weeks vacation. I'm sure there were several other qualified candidates who the company rejected over you. ...

Two weeks vacation is very standard for entry-level and new grad positions.

My situation was a little different than yours. I was being hired for a mid-management job and I had been offered a 2 week vacation while the job I waS leaving had 4. The hiring company also shuts down between Christmas and New Year. I requested 3 weeks vacation by explaining to them that most of my relatives are in Asia and I would like to visit them often. However, given the distance, 2 week would not be sufficient. I also gave them the...
