Thread: Bendis...why the hate?

Started 3 months, 2 weeks ago by Winghead
I see so much Bendis hate on these boards but he is obviously one of the only writers that can sell a book with his name alone. I know his style is different and his dialogue is uniquely his, but most of the time I find his stuff extremely entertaining. He is also responsible for 3 absolutely brilliant long running series in Daredevil, powers and USM. He is always on time, very prolific, and ...

He retconned a good portion of the MU to be able to tell SI and DR. And his crazy repeating talking on top of each other dialogue thing

I like his dialogue. Its weird and usually makes me laugh. And some people must enjoy his Avengers because both of his titles are always top 10 and mighty avengers dropped as soon as he left. I know sales does not dictate quality, as. Hulk will prove but that is mostly due to mcguiness.

Daredevil and Ultimate Spider-Man work because they're ultimately solo character vehicles set in a darker corner of the Marvel Universe and in a darker version of the Marvel Universe, respectively. Both revolve around strongly idealistic characters trying their best to maintain that idealism and do the right thing in a world that leans very heavily towards cynical attitudes and self-focused ...

As soon as he left MA's story had nothing to do with the main one that is happening now in the MU. They arent even in the List..... are they?

Bendis' avengers reminds me of Morrison's New X men. A very different take on the characters that baffled and outraged a lot of more old school fans, was loved by the newer generation and now is generally celebrated. When Bendis leaves the title it will be more appreciated

I find that dialogue humorous, and kind of real. Not typical for Super Hero stuff, but quite real

as I said Bendis Avengers=Morrison X-Men. Different, strange, but obviously popular with a new generation of fans. I love Busiek's Avengers but I can appreciate Bendis' and overall I have had a great deal of fun reading them. I am a fan of Bendis Speak. It reminds me of Kevin Smith's movies (not his comics)

Honestly, a few months ago, i would have defended Bendis without question. However, now im soo annoyed with him because of his work with NA.. from issue 48 i started reading because it was an AMAZING lineup and i figured it would be an awsome book now. Well i dont know what the hell he is doing, but the book is such a catagorical letdown im ashamed im a marvel fan. I mean ...

Its not just the stores. People read his books. Secret invasion consistently outsold Final Crisis and sold more than Blackest Night so far as well. Bendis on an Avengers title is a guaranteed cash cow and mark my words... When he finally leaves his detractors will appreciate his intentions

Eh, I kind of like Bendis breaking a few eggs. One of the things I think that has affected the MU is that it has become ossified somewhat since people's personalities have been locked in for decades. Conversely, few people are willing to accept new heroes so we get lots of retreads of stories. Bendis is basically saying "ok, I want to play in the pool but I don't want to have my readers follow 100% on the...
