Thread: Benching bodybuilding vs powerlifting

Started 3 months ago by crits
Ive always been told to touch my chest when benching however today at my schools bodybuilding meeting I was told that touching your chest is only good for powerlifters and that when bodybuilding not touching your chest is the way to go. How true is this?

IMO this is just something that is preference. If it strains your shoulder to touch your chest then dont. If you are flexible enough then do it

I thought the difference between bodybuilding and powerlifting benching was the degree of arch (greater for powerlifting), where you hit the chest (lower chest abs for powerlifting while more in nipple line for bodybuilding), feet position (i think powerlifting has more an acute angle with lower leg and body), and elbow more flared with bodybuilding compared to powerlifting

I always injure my back when i touch bar to my chest. Normally go a couple inches up form it. I think the Bench at the gym it to wide. When i go down and my shoulder blades come in, it props me up.
