Hello,
It looks like I will be in Tokyo (and maybe Kyoto) in December/January.
I am a beginner in Kendo and thought I would buy bogu in Japan so that I can get measured up, especially for the men (and kote).
I have seen a few threads on the forum that mention shops in Tokyo (and Kyoto) but just wondering if those mentioned sell beginner gear. I am not looking for bargain basement ...
It would be good to get someone who knows what they're doing to measure you, whether it's some guy at a shop or your sensei.
Kyoto and Tokyo are a fair distance apart -- I don't know how flexible your plans are, but you shouldn't plan on being able to shuttle back and forth between the two to compare.
The first shop that comes to mind for me is in Kyoto: Tozando. They have an online ...
Thanks for the quick reply, atgm!
I mention tokyo andkyoto in the same breath mainly because my plans have not been finalised. although I will be mostly in tokyo a couple of days in kyoto is not out of the question, It depends upon which city I enter the country from (Osaka or Tokyo).
I saw Tozando had a shop and I was considering buying from them online, so if I go to Kyoto I would ...

It is definitely a good idea. Most places also take into consideration your entire body structure and not just the ...
Do any of you expats in Japan know if bogu shops will take measurements and keep them on file for later? It would be nice to be able to order things later from one's home country, knowing that they will fit properly. I suppose it is limited to those shops that are willing to take foreign currency transfers, and have also multi-lingual staff. Two I am thinking of that might have this capability ...
It's a good idea but I doubt many places have thought of that.

Definitely not. They need to get more people working there first. I've walked out on several purchases because I simply couldn't be arsed to wait for ...
thanks for the reply, xvikingx.
I certainly like kendo enough that I would not mind adding some cost to a set to get better quality gear, and I plan on doing this for a while (even though I am late to the game). as for fitting- i did not think there woudl be many more "measurements" to take into account- but what woudl i know...
thanks for the offer of info on some other stores in ...

It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the station. You walk down one of the streets leading away from the station and I think it becomes a little bit of a hill. Keep a close eye out for their sign as it almost looks like just a house. After leaving the station we walked by a ramen shop, the building is red. When you get to the intersection with the corolla dealer, its right up the street on your right.

The place I go to only has a few sets on hand for display purposes (though they would sell them), and half of them are for kids of different ages. Most of...
