Thread: Beatles + Bowers & Wilkins

Started 3 months, 2 weeks ago by Guardian
I'd like this to just be a discussion of the remasters for people who use B&W (Bowers and Wilkins) speakers in their system. Since they were mastered on this brand of speaker I was wondering if the opinions from other B&W users were positive or negative. I myself own a pair of DM610's not anything high end but still fairly nice (I think). Listening to the beatles remasters on them makes it ...

B&W speakers have a reputation for being detailed while still finding room for forgiveness. My CDM-7s have always made the Beatles sound wonderful. I'll post back when I get hold of my mono box next week. In the meantime, I've been spinning my BC-13 lps (in a vain attempt to convince myself that I really don't need the stereo box) and the fabs sound fab. One nice thing about the B&W ...

Hmm, interesting...it's one of the same reasons why I chose Bryston...because they're used in many, many studios.

I have two sets of B&W speakers. A really old, but wonderful, set of DM-6s connected to my tubed rig and the 603 series connected to my Integra home theater receiver. The remasters sound fantastic on the tubed rig and very, very good on the 603s. The remasters sound better than my Black Triangles, original Capitol vinyl and any other versions in my racks. Paul

I would have liked to have bought the old 808s back in the 80s, or the old 800 Matrixes back in the early 90s. \

The Beatles stereo remasters sound wonderful on my B&Ws - model DM330.

Anybody got either B&W DM2 or DM4 ?

I think the Mono titles sound great on my B&W N802s. I haven't listened to the stereo versions seriously just yet. I'm really not sure there's a match with the speaker model and what it was mastered on, but I guess there could be a link! I think all of the Audio Fidelity titles sound wonderful, but I'm sure they were mastered on something far different than my N802s. However, I think I recall...

I've listened to "White" on my DM602s - sounded great to me.

There was also the Matrix 3. Which I believe was available in the mid to late 80s. Not a bad speaker for the price!

Many thanks, Stereoguy I don't have any experience with those older speakers, but a quick look at the B&W website indicates that something in the DM series might just do the trick. For example, the DM330i has a rated sensitivity of 91 dB and a recommended amplifier power...

My listening room version of "Beatles and B&W". Linda McCartney phototook this during the Sgt. Pepper release party in happier times:
