Question regarding battery storage over the winter....
I've had to replace my battery in my R1 the last three springs because they've died over the winter. Yes I've had a Battery Tenderer hooked up to it all winter and it still died.
This winter I'm thinking about taking the battery out of the bike for the winter. Are there any issues with doing this? I figure if I can take it out of the...
If its the same r1 you got another problem . I keep battery tenders on about 8 toys & had not put a battery in anyone of them in 3+ years . I dont think your battery tender is working correctly .
You being in nc I would not think taking it out would be of any benifit .

I've had no problem with mine during the winter either and it gets a tad cold here in Wisconsin and it's just in the garage.
My tender is hard wired to the bike so I just use the plug, easy on ...

Both terminals. Most people, myself included use the attachment that bolts to the battery - leave a quick release dangling that you just plug into the tender. Every time I get off the bike I ...
another vote for a bad battery tender. i have my street and track bikes on tenders all winter and track bike(s) on one year round. keep my M3 on one all winter as well as my tractor. never any battery issues.
After replacing 2 batteries I went with a battery tender also and it works
like a charm. I have it hooked to both terminals and it has a quick release
plug on it so the pig tail stays with the bike and the charger plugs into
the wall. I would say you either have a draw on the bikes electrical system
all the time or the tender is not working right. Or there is something
wrong with the plug you are...
Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking the battery tender is bad. Way too late to return it though.
As long as I have stabilizer in a full tank of gas, can I just keep the battery inside the house this winter and keep it fresh that way? Will the bike be fine through the winter months?

It's amazing how many people make some things into such a big deal. The tender even comes with attachments that permanently attach to the terminals, so all you have to do is literally plug in the chord of the tender to the chord coming off the battery....

Ground a terminal or connect both to battery?

You might have a problem if the bike is left on the ground for looong periods, as you might get a flatspot on the tyre, But as you have...

I know this doesn't solve your issue, but if you keep having problems, try looking on cyclegear.com. They have a battery that has a lifetime warranty called the Megaboost. I was doubtful about a battery with a lifetime warranty, but you can call them and ask about it. I've had mine for about 7 months now with no problems. I haven't had to take them up on their warranty. Just a thought is all. __________________ sig by petrol...

As others have said, bad tender was my 1st guess. With that said, a weak battery that hasn't received a charge over...
