Thread: Basic Bank Account Thread

Started 3 years, 1 month ago by sgx.saint
Hello all. I thought I would start this thread in relation to all the posts that I see regularly on this board regarding Basic Bank Accounts. My idea being that this thread could perhaps become a sticky or something similar in order to help anyone who has a question about these type of accounts. I myself have two basic bank accounts, and a few months ago when I was 'shopping' ...

Hi all, Just a quickie as i'm after a basic bank account and just want some advice. I'm a member of an online gaming clan, and several of the other members pay towards running the clan through Paypal. But quite a lot of members are under 16 and want to pay something but have neither a bank account or Paypal account. I am after a basic account, as i dont want to use my own current account, so...

If I'm not doing Uni work, then I am on the MSE forums, it's a form of addiction you know! Back to the thread .... I hope this helps all the people who have questions...

Could I also mention that although not strictly a basic bank account Citibank's Sterling Account is very good and they seem to accept almost anybody. I haven't heard of anyone being refused one after reading the message boards. I held two basic bank accounts due to a recent bankruptcy but was still accepted for the citibank account. Good luck everybody.

Could I mention that my husband was decline by Norwich and Peterborough for their Basic Bank account. He's in a DMP with Payplan and has one CCJ and 3 defaults. They refused him an account. We have a joint account with Natwest and this is a step account, it is very good, aside from the dubious customer service!

theboylard replied 3 years, 1 month ago
Following some of the other threads about accounts, I really wanted to be completely independent of the joint account so Nationwide's FlexAccount, whilst I'll still use it for holiday money, was not a long term answer for me as they wouldn't give a debit card. Not even after I pleaded and showed proof of income and took in copies of credit file showing no debts - mortgage only, nowt else! So...

I have been with barclays for 15 years, had everything, came out of work, forgot about my tv licence dd, they shut down my accounts and threw my cards away, went back 6 months later, no bad credit, no ccj's, no nothing, they would only give me a cashcard account, went in the bank one day, they asked would I like to up-grade my account, I said oh yes please, went to see the bank manager and ...

Good morning, Just thought I'd let you know that I received my Citibank welcome letter this morning stating that VISA card is in the post; it took about 2 weeks from application. I had been refused basic accounts from Natwest and Clydesdale (Yorkshire) bank before applying to Citibank; I already had a (very) basic account with LTSB. MF

Is it true that Abbey are getting rid of Electron cards from today?! Might have to ring up and say I "lost" the one that goes with my Instant Plus account I have with them and see what turns up! ;-) James

Update on the Yorkshire Bank account. I checked with Credit Expert, after receiving an alert today, and was suprised to see the account reporting to Experian, as a Current Account, with no overdraft. Wasn't aware they did report, so more nice green zero's, which can only be a good thing. Thought this may be another good reason to use them for anyone else interested.

Hi Thanks everyone for your advice, after carefull consideration, hours of searching basic accounts online and a reccomendation from a friend, I opted to go with the CO-OP cashminder account, basically because of the fact that payments can be deposited at the post office, which is really handy for me as I don't have many branches near to where I live. Anyway I applied via telephone today, strange as it was a bank holiday I confirmed that...

Actually, not seen any rain YET. It's quite pleasant, but it won't stay that way I'm sure. Bet the horrid weather is on it's way from your part of the county over the moors.
