The ridiculous decision to cast Angelina Jolie as Alexander's mum completely ruined the believability of those scenes for me. Ok, they may have had children at a young age at that time but Jolie is only a year older than Farrell?!! Slapping a poncey blond wig on Farrell does not give the illusion of a mother-son relationship, and Angelina hardly looked any different from the way she did in the ...
Actually, Angelina Jolie's character, Olympias, was beleved to be a sorceress in popular coulture, maybe that's why she doesn't appear aging.
And come on, have you ever seen a movie with more stars than this one?
I have seen this the movie once and I liked it. I's quite accurate and honestly it's beautiful to watch.
And don't give me the "what do you know about Greek Mythology?" reply, please! I live at 1300 km from Athens, I live and breath Ancient history and did so for as long as I know. :D
Angelina Jolie was bad. They should have gotten someone older and more talented.
But saying Farrell was bad is to look ONLY at his scenes with Jolie. If you got rid of all the scenes between the two of them, you cut the worst parts of Farrell. He was great when faced with his generals, friends, father, lovers. All that was great. And the Final Cut adds more scenes like that.
Angelina was a great choice for the earlier scenes when Alexander was just a kid. Some powerful domestic violence and semi-rape scenes there with Alexander's father, the King etc. She was supposed to be a young and gorgeous mom. It made sense. But, they should have kept her aging rapidly through out the movie,. It was only at the end, when Alex. was in Persia she seemed to have started aging. At ...
If you want to see Alex getting it on with Bagoas, then watch the Final Cut. In aspects of no holds barred with the ratings, and also a disregard for time limits, this is the best version Oliver Stone has released of "Alexander".
I own that one version as well, but did not like the pacing of some scenes for some reason. Maybe need to revisit, because I dismissed it right away after watching it once. It isn't about Alex having sex with a man, or any man; it is about depicting his relationship with the supposedly true-and-only love in his life: Hephaiston.
I think Stone had the chance to make a glorious movie that would...

Jolie wasn't so annoying. Her Russian accent was getting a little on my nerves but she was generally OK. Her age is correct as well. I read somewhere that women in ancient Greece were given to marriage when they were still in their early teens, around 13-15, so Jolie who was 30 at the time could play Alexander's mother. However, Farrell was seriously awful and he was only one year younger than Jolie, yet playing her son. I'd...

Went to a screening of Ang Lee's "Taking... Went to a screening of Ang Lee's "Taking Woodstock." Caricatures, schmaltzy dialogue, bad casting-a disservice to the epic event. Too bad. 6:58 AM Jun 25th from TwitterBerry
