Thread: BSODs in game - what is causing it?

Started 4 months ago by SnooSnooKachu
My friend has a computer I build for him several months ago, which was running Vista. Up until recently, it was working just fine for games. Now, if we try to play a game on it, it will give a BSOD after a seemingly random amount of time (sometimes after 5 minutes, other times after an hour and a half). The BSOD would give a message IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL. I've tried reinstalling ...

Have you tried other memory? http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/showthread.php?t=5394 7

well can we get the specs of the rig that is having problems also. have you checked the temps while trying to play a game. if he has more then one stick of ram try removing all of them but one. if that doesn't work try switching them around in different memory slots. for temp use core temp and real temp. also download prime 95 and do a stress test and see if the system shuts down...

Have another Power Supply you can try? Inadequate PSU's or even not having enough power can cause these types of situations. Any specs on this PC? Processor speed, video card, how many hard drives, PSU brand name and wattage? This post has been edited by DeAdLy_MaNgO : Yesterday, 08:57 AM

Here are the specs: Core 2 Duo e8400 ASRock Penryn1600SLI-110dB motherboard 4GB G.Skill ram 750 GB Samsung hard drive EVGA 9800 GTX+ OCZ 600W power supply As for swapping the ram, the ram that is in it used to be from my computer. The original ram he had wasn't compatible with his motherboard and wouldn't post if 4 sticks were put in it, but that is unrelated to the problem. The low ...

isn't 70C for the 9800gtx/+ kinda hot?

DeAdLy_MaNgO replied 4 months ago
Not if it's got some kind of load on it.

when you get the bsod did you wright down the numbers. if so what are they. also if you did wipe the os and still getting this problem then hardware is the biggest bet. parts will just up and die which sucks. i would suggest removing the ram and trying one stick at a time. if its not the ram then say hello to mister new motherboard. Verify memory voltages, then run Memtest86+ from bootable cd (run tests #5 and 8 for ten passes each, then all tests for a couple hours), then Prime95. If that doesn't work, check for IRQ conflicts in the device manager (View -> resources by connection)

QUOTE (SnooSnooKachu @ Sep 7 2009, 04:58 PM) As I stated in my first post, I ran Memtest from cd and everything passed fine. I tried putting the memory in a different computer and running Memtest and it still passed. A buddy at work has a psu tester, so hopefully I can borrow that and check that out. Keep in mind that a stand alone PSU tester might not yield the results you are looking for. What you really need to do is get...

Ah, sorry I missed that. What about the CPU? Can the rig run IntelBurnTest for 30 minutes or so without getting an error or crashing?
