I'm just glad we got the important stuff, like "repatriation of votive sand from the wreck" soooo right. Now I can rest easy knowing that the poor lost sand has, at last, gone home. Well done guys, Ozzie tax payer money well spent, again!!!

I wonder if this will be incentive for the department to treat any and all new wrecks the same way...who knows they might even get another award They should have that votive sand for sale at the maritime museum. It might even sell enough to pay for all that hitech surveillance. gotta keep those bloody divers away from the wrecks some how eh?

I have to say that I completely and utterly do not understand why we (ie The Government on our behalf) have glorified the wreck of a nation that was an enemy during the time it was sunk. Not only were they on the losing side of WWII, they were openly committed to invading Australia. I won't even go into their war crimes and atrocities against civilian populations all...

It is interesting that the other 11 award winners/mentions seem to be all about restoring things for people to live in, work at and visit. Only in Australia do we boast about how we have this thing and we have invested in really clever technology to keep every one away from it. Also, ironically, the other summaries seem to be written using the English language, ...
