Thread: Audyssey mike & 605

Started 2 months, 2 weeks ago by tinmanuk
Just used the mike to set up my 605 with some onkyo 528 speakers. It has set the speakers ( front ) at 150hz but according to the manual they are rated up to 80hz only. Should I 'tweak' the settings and change to 80hz or leave them at 150hz. I thought if left at 150hz Id miss the sounds within the 80hz to 150hz range

I'd guess the 150 is nearer to the truth and the setup would alter the sub crossover to suit. But feel free to try different settings, as you can always revert

is there a danger it may damage my speakers at that setting

To expand (because I've just realised my answer was poor), the speakers go down to 80 hz, not up. So settings lower than 80 will be a bad idea. Anything above is fine I don't fully understand the Onkyo's setup because I've never had my hands on it, but the above is definitely correct

So would it make sense to set your 'satelite speakers' to the point were your Sub can be used. For example my sub has a range 27hz - 150hz so I should set my other speakers at 150hz

The main thing is you set the crossover to suit the speakers, not the sub. The difference is the sub can produce higher frequencies than are needed, but the speakers can't produce lower than are needed. I hope that makes sense, but feel free to ask again if you're still not sure

This thread is a very good start for learning the basics of crossover settings if you want any further reading Crossover and Speaker Settings in Relation to Bass Management Hex

cheers guys, now I just have to 'play around' and decide which is best between 80 -150hz for each of my speakers to cross over to my sub. Easy when you know how
