After watching/reading the comparison I was mildly amused.
As everyone knows the Prius is due to be replaced with a new model next year.
This new Insight is a new model. The Prius basically dates from MY'04.
There is no mention of the 8yr/80K mi warranty on the hybrid system components.
Is my '07 Prius the last of those cars that had this warranty? Does the Insight have this coverage?...
What difference does the disctinction of "Mild Hybrid/full hybrid" make?
Well, you either don't care, or don't know. "Mild Hybrid" can mean most anything to qualify for the distinction. Some GMs, for instance, have a "Mild Hybrid" that simply shuts down the gas engine, A/C, power steering, etc. at a stop sign and then a motor/generator (driven by the accessorry belt) starts the engine again...
Yes, Toyota is redesigning the Prius. And maybe the redesign will get 800 MPG. (I doubt it).
I'm sure Toyota will address some of the issues that many reviewers have had with it. And in the end, it will still be a bigger car, more suitable as a family sedan. But, it will still have a much higher price tag attached. (I doubt Edmunds is making a WAG here).
In the end, this ...
So what was the 2009 Prius efficiency: "39 mpg" or "49 mpg" or "54 mpg" or "100 mpg" in four columns? We can't tell from this article.
The extremes of automotive reporting on Prius mileage range from the "Top Gear" 17 mpg to more than 1,000 miles from a single tank. But these results are just as misleading as the Edmunds article. It is why I wrote the article referenced on how to "game" ...
I actually think this was a fair comparison for two vehicles that in a couple of months are likely to be selling for just about the very same price. The 2010 Prius will list at least $4K - 5K more than the Insight, and it could be argued that its unfair to compare vehicles priced so far apart. The 09 Prius might have greater incentives to move the old stock. I can't believe that Honda dealers ...
Never was good at spelling.
No, I have not driven the 2010 Prius. I'm basing my opinion on reviews, test drives, researching the Toyota website and visiting local dealers. The lots I've visited in Nor Cal are loaded with 09 Prius.
This is only my opinion. I think the cars I'm comparing are more similar then they are different. The 2010 Prius is being compared to a midsize when it ...
Thanks rbk3. I agree the Prius is a "large" compact even though it squeezes into the EPA's mid-size class. I've driven the '09 Prius but only seen the new Insight on dealer's lots.
I like the looks of the Insight best but it is a "small" compact and really too narrow for my taste. The Prius offers much more room but I've never warmed up to it's appearance.
I'm hoping the '10 Prius ...
It appears that the pricing on the 2010 Prius will come out on April 22nd, Earth Day.
I'd expect the standard model 1223 ( Prius II ) to begin around $23500-$24000. From there it may go up as high as $33000 for those that must have all the latest features.
There's talk also of a Prius model 1221 ( Prius I ) that will be well below $23000. that's the Insight II fighter. In the ...
I honestly believe the Insight looks like a cheap, poorly made vehicle, and someone can get nearly as good mileage with a mild hybrid or non-hybrid vehicle, and save tons of money in the process. Let me say upfront, I'm looking at a Prius and am not a fan of the Insight. However I think your comments are indeed obviously biased (as are the other posters). This forum isn't about comparing the Insight to a...
You seem to change the subject and throw out meaningless information... Wrong. The subject has never changed. It has been on-topic 100% of the time. And the information provided has been far from being meaningless. It wasn't Honda that announced a low price for a car that doesn't exist, with features that are unknown, and on a car that won't be released for months. You know the one - the car that the New...
I agree with everything you say. The Fit has much more content and it is less expensive and more fun to drive. You have to be really foolish to buy an Insight when ten feet away in the showroom is the Fit. I think Honda realizes they did not get it right.
The Prius 2010 has an electricmotorgen that is 33% lighter than the one on the Prius 2009. It also tolerates less tire slippage than the Prius 2009 according to Car and Driver who says the VSC is to aggressive and raises doubt on the capacity of the 2010 to be better than the 2009 in the snow (they even claim it will be worst) I do not know where you live but here in Sherbrooke Québec, we have to be prepared to go up hills and my...
"contortionist to enter" What a joke of a reply... I'm 6-3 and have absolutely no issues getting in or out. Your reply can never be taken seriously with that remark nor some of the others. Just another troll Read below on a much better review than your useless one...... link title
When Toyota announced pricing for the '10 Prius I was pleasantly surprised. The $8 billion 1st quarter loss and the Insight may have prompted the sub-$23K entry price but regardless, it was a good move. A $30K loaded Prius is fine if the actually have 2010 models to sell at $23K and it looks like they will.
There are several posters out in Alberta with Prius' that just posted their impressions after a big storm there. You might be interested to investigate at PriusChat.
