A few months back or so, a member of this site(can't think of the name) built a homemade version of those on board welders. It seemed to work well for him and it only cost a fraction of the price of one of those ones you listed. Scott

I've got an old Marquette stick machine that I never use... I was thinking about taking it apart and using it for the parts to build an on board welder... It would be nice to have a console type plate that had switches, meter and female plugs for the leads... Just pull the leads out of the back and the rest is plug-n-play...

With a Ford externally regulated alt. its as simple as putting 12v to the field . No internal mods are needed.

I've got an old Marquette stick machine that I never use... I was thinking about taking it apart and using it for the parts to build an on board welder...
