Hi guys This is not a format war type question its a (shock, horror) genuine one. Im in the market for a new monitor (to complement my HP laptop). Ive gotten much more serious in terms of printing and Ive reached the limits of the HP generic screen. So my question is: The new Apple LED 24inch display, or an equivalent EIZO (note I have a Spyder3 Elite calibrator already). They seem ...
There are many models in EIZO range, some are very good, but the more expensive ones are just amazing ! :) Yes I do have one, it's a cheaper FlexScan S2410W model and it is 3 years old already. Will upgrade for a newer version when the warranty runs out (in 2 years) The best for color range is "ColorEdge" - they guarantee colour evenness and faithfulness across entire visual area. The FlexScan ...

They had the option of picking matte screens for a while (I actually thought it was still available) but this seems to have disappeared. At A$1499(ish) for the mac screens here in Oz, I should be able to get a decent EIZO for a little bit more. Will check out the ...
The choice is pretty much between NEC 2690WUXi-BK HP LP2480ZX LaCie 526 LaCie 724 Equivalent EIZO is about 30% more expensive, and unless you are after spending about $2500 I would not look at EIZO at all.
Thanks so much for all the help guys - most appreciated. I've just been looking and the EIZOs here are around A$3,000 plus, plus (this seems to put them in a completely different league to Mac). I think I'll definitely have a closer look at the NEC. Cheers AJ
G'day AJ I have the 24 inch Eizo ColourEdge. Spectacular display, but bloody expensive (AU$3600.00). I also have an HP LP2476w which is no slouch. Definitely needs calibration though. I use Eye 1 and find the HP, when calibrated, almost as good as the Eizo. The HP was $1400 when I purchased it about one year ago but if you shop around you'll find it for about the $1000 mark. Here is a link to...

And no, I'm not colour blind - I have a class one pilot's medical to prove...
I agree fully with all you said, with the exception that I can live with a glossy display. Though I would definitely prefer matte. I wish Apple would explain why they went with glossy. I agree on that. Every year be buy new colorimeters as it is to expensive to recalibrate them ,if even possible. The price of calibrating an Eye-one is also higher than buying a new DTP-94 or Eye-One Display II. Whatever you use colori... or spectrophoto...), for MOST people it will get good results.

Now that I can associate with :-), nice descriiption, but unfortunately the vast majority of my clients will only contract with iso 9000 companies so I have to grin and bear it. dave

The new ones are better than the older, even last generation. I won't disagree with you regarding they are 'better' in the sense of brightness, crispness and overall 'pop'. But, for editing, and I tried on an...
