Thread: Anyone travelled to Bulgaria?

Started 3 months, 2 weeks ago by goldbyron
I have been asked to travel to Bulgaria for 5 nights in January (brr) for work to a place called peshtera - nearest looking town of civilization looks like Velingrad. I am a bit of a nervous traveller - has anyone ever been to this region and have any experience? Thanks

Dont know the place you mention, but my Dad lives in a village in Bulgaria (Rossan) about 35 mins from Bourgas. They have always been lovely to him and me when visiting. They tought him Bulgarian and my Dad taught them English, lovely people and a beautiful country. plus 4p for a bottle of beer - you cant go wrong. Have a good trip. xx

Bulgaria is excellent - I'd thoroughly recommend it. Travelled all over by train and coach. Beer is a bit more than 4p a bottle now though (although still cheap).

I would be quite interested on where you have been in Bulgaria and how many times? Bulgaria is going to be the next Spain. I should know because we have had...

I went backpacking around Bulgaria 5 or 6 years ago. There are some nice places, it's useful to learn the cyrillic alphabet though if you're going to be using train or buses and need to read timetables. The thing that really stood out for me in a disappointing way was being on the receiving end of 3 pickpocketing attempts - I'm well travelled and hopefully pretty savvy about scams, but 1 of the occasions they did manage to get...
