Thread: Anyone know North/West LEICESTER? Need some advice on areas ...

Started 1 month ago by goggle
Hi A friend needs to relocate to Leicester for work. She wants to live West or North of the city, possibly in one of the surrounding suburbs/villages but needs advice on good/bad areas to live. She has found out that New Parks, Braunstone and Beaumont Leys are areas to avoid - but does anyone know anything about : Leicester Forest East; Thorpe Astley (looks like a new build estate); ...

I'd check the tax implications; Taken form YouGov; Loans at low interest rates You may have to pay tax on this benefit if your employer lends you more than £5,000 interest free, or charges you less than the official rate of interest on a loan. The value of the benefit you'll have to pay tax on is usually the difference between: the interest you actually pay the interest ...

I am really keen to get on the housing ladder in London before the end of this year but finding it hard to get a decent mortgage. Have saved £20K since I left Uni, have no debts, other than my student £8K loan, and a good credit history...yet am finding it extremely difficult to find a decent mortgage. Am looking at a mortgage of £160k. I initially thought that £20K would be enough for a deposit...

Hello adewalebiggie I'm in a similar situation as you I've got £15,000 saved up. Desperate to get on the property ladder. After a place in London for £166,000 I'm going to go through Yorkshire Bank if they'll take me. It's a three-year fixed rate mortgage. The rate is stupidly high, and my monthly mortgage payment will be about £1,000 a month for a two bed flat. The big thing ...

Hi - thanks for your response. I might check them out if they are willing to lend at 95% - what is they salary multiple? If the repayment on 95% is the same as 90% then I might as well have that and, like you, use the rest of the money to do up the place... have you got any direct contact details? If not will just call them tomorrow...I am planning on buying at least a 2 bed. My plan initially ...

The news was welcomed by Crisis who had launched their Poor choice: stop cuts to the poorest campaign to oppose the original proposal.

It's as much for her benefit as yours. You can download free tenancy agreements or she could buy one.

Unlike what most LLs & Letting Agents think, the LL (or his agent) are only legally allowed to enforce a check on the state & condition of the place to ensure it is still " fit for habitation " -i.e. to make sure they provide you a decent place, not to check if live in an acceptable way (Landlord & tenant Act 1985 Section 8)... My favourite places are Brighton (not without its social problems or high property prices though) and Glasgow (fantastic arts infrastructure, transport and shopping). If I wanted to live somewhere quieter, I'd go for the southern highlands or a quiet place in the country that's reasonable driving distance or on the train route to Glasgow or Edinbugh. I love the Isle of Skye but its just so far away from decent transport (3 hours...

Put slug pellets all around the outside of the property and create a barrier that way. If you're worried about your little girl and slug pellets outside then put salt instead but you will need to replace it much more regularly. It does work. I'm sorry for your plight, it sounds like a nightmare - that's all the help I'm able to offer

Maybe the OP could investigate staying in a YHA cheaply to look around at rooms, easier to find/bag a room if you're there. Maybe travel uber-light on possessions and stay in a YHA for a week to look. Pound the streets, get local papers etc. It's not easy moving to another area, when I did it I found often agents weren't answering their phones or couldn't do a viewing for 2 weeks, or at all. So many properties advertised...

If I could live anywhere in the country right now I'd choose down by the coast in Kent, particularly Walmer or Deal. I have chums who live there and adore that area. At the moment the rail-link to Charing Cross is two hours but there are plans to put in a high-speed link which will cut the journey-time down to an hour. Then the property prices down there should increase a bit, I reckon. Nice, small-town feel, decent schools, plenty of...
