I found my 2000 Miata too noisy for iPhone's speaker when I use GPS navigation, and it created a couple of dangerous situations. So I came here for help -- what I intended to do was to buy a cassette unit and use a conversion tape. Fortunately, Mark Booth is so nice to show me how he made his AUX-input mod ( http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=219635 ), and it was amazingly elegent and ...
Ok, thanks rudolf. I think I was reading the directions for the standard head unit and not the MSSS when I came to that conclusion. I still haven't gotten to this project, but hopefully soon. Knowing I can keep the CD might make me dive in sooner.
You only need to remove the negative on the battery to disconnect it. Should be a 10mm socket and some elbow grease.
Put some muscle on it and the nut should come loose. Maybe a little squirt of some WD or PB blaster and let it soak, just a drop or two. After 30 min or so, try it again
Remember to get your radio codes before the disconnect

Let me get this straight; your audio dealer wants you to spend $1100 to add on a subwoofer and amp ON TOP OF THE STOCK BOSE SYSTEM????

Even if it's possible, which I doubt, it would still sound like crap, just crap with better bass.
If that's the case he's a charlatan, a fraud and/or a...
I installed a double-din OEM Mazda stereo from a 2002 Protege 5 in to my 1990 Miata. (I like the OEM look and the price was right - $10.00 plus cost of aux-mod and wiring). I used a "reverse" wiring harness and everything went great except my headrest speakers don't function. I have the wiring connected to the large plug on the back left of the head unit. I thought the right side small plug on ...

I installed the Blaupunkt headrest speakers last night and am very pleased with the results; they really fill in the back sound well for a nice surround effect. Thanks for the tip, Jeff.

I've often wondered.... They make it illegal to operate a motor vehicle while wearing headphones, but now MANDATE them for phone use - who came up with this crazy idea? As for the thread - what units are everyone using now? Any other recommendations? Have they gotten better?

And if you search the internet you will always find the audiophiles and hobbyists who think that everything other than what they do or buy is wrong. And as a result, people like the OP, although not necessarily given bad advice, are given advice that is beyond their needs or expectations. I would not let the opinion of an audiophile persuade you from the Clearwaters. They will sound much better than OEM. The PnP is nice, but certainly not a...
