Thread: Anniversary Present

Started 1 month ago by B.Miller
The g/f and I for our 2 year anniv. decided to get each other gifts, but to keep it simple, we couldn't spend over $20. Saw this online and figured I would try it out. Still not 100% on the saturation and colors, but I have until the 24th! What do y'all think? -Bryant

Nice B&W of a barren forest.

That's a very nice shot, Stuart. But alas, it makes me sad. It's looks worse than the last time I was there. The Woolly Adelgid is devastating everything.

Earlier this month we made it down to The Nantahala range and Smoky mountains. Here is one shot from Clingman's Dome" =>

First thought upon seeing it: Oooh, I like it! Thoughts after looking at it for a few minutes: I still like it. Nicely done.

Thank you guys, it means alot coming from my peers !!!

Beautifully done Goodstein - you've captured these in a unique way that photographers don't usually consider. I love the crisp, sharp, fresh nature of each. The side lighting really adds a nice three dimensional effect to them. - Stu

Reminds me of the movie "Alien".

Very nice. It reminds of a 50's science fiction show (Space Rangers? or something like that).

Normally I despise any type of selective color, but in this case, it's absolutely perfect. Subtle & poignant. And I started life as an electrician, so I can appreciate it even more... Very well done sir!

I think it's an amazing accomplishment (that photo), and I wouldn't be surprised if it would fetch a very good price, especially considering the climate summit in Copenhagen right now. I'm not mentioning politics, of course. What each of us thinks is irrelevant to what I'm saying: This photo is current. Heck, I think incandescents are going to be outlawed in California. Not kidding.

Kaitlyn- Most highspeed shot are performed in the dark. While in a dark room you can have the shutter open and not collect any light on the sensor. Now you need a flash that you can controll the duration. Most flashes are set for around 1/1000 of a second by default. This is too long for most highspeed photos. Therfore, you set the flash at 1/16 - 1/128 power. This will limit the flash to somewhere around 1/15,000 - 1/35,000 of a second. The...

I agree. A shallower DOF would've been better. It gives kind of a "off into the abyss" feeling.
