I believe most posters on this site will disagree with me. But I think this suit by council is a good thing in some ways. It will settle the question of his contact in a court of law. It shows the pursuit of justice should not be linked to cost. And maybe, just maybe, the Preston era can be closed once and for all (no matter what the outcome).

My question has always been, how did the old council justify buying off JP's contract and hiring Mr Cunningham? If the people supported them(seems like old council knew they didn't) JP would still have a job and no money would have been wasted. Sooooo, why are we in this situation? The new council would have been able to do their job with plenty of funds, if the old council hadn't tried to ...

I agree with you confused. The old council majority was on the way out. The June Primary made sure of that. It could have been a "slap in the face" to the voters that sent them packing. Or, it could have been payback for JP's favors to them over the years (or favors gotten in the last few months and weeks prior to the 11/18 meeting). In my opinion, it is some of both reasons. I'll be ...

Terms are for January to January not January to November, or even January to June. If you want elected officials to take over the day elected, start a ballot initutive and get it voted on. Like or dislike what they do it is a 2 YEAR term, not an 22 month one or 18 month one. You disagree with it this term, someone else will disagree next term, and I bet some disagreed the term before ...

I hope your post was not a reply to mine. Because mine had nothing to do with term dates . It had everything to do with the mindset of the defeated council majority and why I think they did what they did.

monamie replied 1 month, 1 week ago
Thats why they call it politics. People who can work, do the rest aspire to be politicians. The above post was general in nature due to many people, not you specificly, have griped that the old council should have done nothing for 6 months since they were defeated in the primary. It all comes down to the mindset that they were elected for a 2 year term and they believed that they were ...

There is one point you keep skipping over. The will of the voters . The voters made it very plain to each of the defeated councilmen what they thought of how those councilmen had been representing their wishes. They (lame duck council) knew they were doing exactly what the voters did not want . The discussion tonight is why.

Monamie, I also question the pardons that Presidents give at the end of their terms. Maybe the world is in the trouble it is because of questionable and costly decisions made by people in control. If the money lost came out out of their pocket, I would bet many choices would be different.

monamie replied 1 month, 1 week ago
That seems to be one of the trade-offs that the parties give each other. It lets them claim a level of civility in a time of transfer. On the federal level there is no limit to the money, they have printing presses!!

sweet-p you are so right. We all are in this together. I hope this era of division in the county ends soon. We may not always, or ever agree, but we should be able to discuss different viewpoints without the name calling and meaness shown by some on both sides.

SweetP, $700,000 is small compared to what the old council cost the county, yet you had no problem with that.  As far as what is legal, anyone who has ever dealt with money, knows there are ways to cover illegal actions. Since the majority of Anderson doesn't vote they also are unaware of any of the old/new council  battle.

I agree with both of you. The main points of meanness left in the county is the council and the heavy handed tactics they are using. Let's get 7 new ones without a dog in the fight and start out on a path of moving Anderson forward!!! Thanks and have a nice day!!!!

You're absolutely right, NS, I won't change your mind, you won't change mine. As you said, the court will be the final arbitor of this whole mess. Let's hope we can all move on at some point. After all, we really are all in this together, no matter which side we are on.

Ms. Jones has already won the first legal battle and the drivercowards haven't changed their minds one bit. They still think is guilty of a crime. No amount of legal losses will ever change their minds. Poor pathetic people.

Specifically,  for most of the Districts it was the will of Republican Primary Election voters.  Most of the Republican candidates had no challengers in the General Election.  It cannot be claimed that mounting legal expenses, at the expense of public services, represents the will of the majority of Anderson County taxpayers. It looks like they are putting the Politician horse before the Sheriff & Solicitor...

RECONSIDER THE LAWSUIT AGAINST JOEY Clearly the tide has turned, leaving the four council looneys high and dry (Tom Allen got smart).  Their "get Joey" focus has to change.  Conservatives don't like wasting money.  The four love wasting money, especially if it hurts Joey.  Looking in the crystal ball, I see a countersuit coming.  I see the county (more on this later) losing their...
