Thread: Alternator

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by 89 ranger.
I was just driving to work and my voltage gauge on my 89 2.9l was jumping back and forth like crazy and then the truck shut off. I started it again and it was fine. WTF? New alternator

As in, you bought a new alternator and it's doing this? If so, take it back and get a replacement! It sounds like the voltage regulator in the alternator is dead.

It's a 2 minute test at your local auto parts store to confirm the alternator is failing.
