Thread: Alternate lines being addressed via SCORE...

Started 3 weeks, 4 days ago by johnnyairtime
Remove all Advertisements I know this horse was beat to death in the 09 500, with some of the course being the "normal", and some of the deviations or alternate lines not being addressed. In fact, I remember this one specifically not being listed as an Alternate... and you didn't get dinged for taking it. NOW, for the 1000... it's listed as an ...

Nice to see that not only has "Chain Guides" progress with SCORE been invaluable... but the course being marked electronically has stepped up too. Now with VCPs (49 of them), and more of the alternate lines (24 of them) being addressed... I think it's being better explained, better patrolled and the information is getting out to the teams rather well. ... 2009 Baja 1000 is going to be an ...

This is an interesting example of a "alternate line" that is acceptable (Alt.Line #17). ... however, you'll notice a smaller "inside" line, that is not necessarily acceptable (per track), but not marked as course or alternate line. The length of the inner line is about a 1/4 of a mile, with the next inner line being about a 1/2 mile. Obviously an advantage, but also at one apex... is 500' ...

I don't think the uphill at the coast (West of Santo Tomas), was ever marked on GPS course as an "alternate line" either.... but it is now!

Easy on a bike......not likely for a TT.

'96 Baja 1000 to La Paz, one of my teammates had all his gear stolen out of his truck parked in front of his hotel the night before the race. To late to do anything by the time they noticed. The start rider was told to just keep riding the next section. No problem!

Jezzz what dd we do in the days before GPS and Cell phones? We pre ran the courses and then raced what we pre ran. If at the drivers meeting Sal said there was a course deviation (usually because something was so ugly impassable OR so many big name teams has a "known" short cut they were using) then each rider would pass this info on to the next until it got to the rider in that section. Like in 92 when the silt bed heading...
