Hello everyone, My sister is scheduled for her second craniotomy on Tuesday. Her NO is on vaca. It`s for recurrent GBM and she was dx on 7/28/09. Here`s the question...unrelenting headache last night so no sleep she also seems very removed from what`s going on around her. detached almost. She has gone from walking ,working etc two days ago and now has the terrible ...

Is anyone else receiving the CDX-110 vaccine? My husband is part of a Celldex clinical trial. He has been getting the vaccine since January. He also is on Temodar. (just finished up round #8, with 4 more to go.)  His MRIs have been stable. Anyone else doing the vaccine study? How has everything been working out for you?   Also, he finds the ...
I would think that the area could be numbed prior to the injection. Seems barbaric these days to inflict pain when it might be mitigated! Especially on someone who has already suffered so much. Enough already! But I do hope the vaccine works. We're tracking these things! Sarah mom of Andy 27 dx gbm/pnet 1/09
First, I can't imagine the paranoia on top of the hallucinations. My father has been having hallucinations for several months and the dr. doesn't seem concerned. He said my dad's brain is so mixed up from the tumor, surgery and treatments that his mind is pilling past memories and thinking they are happening now. We try to tell him whatever it is isn't happening ...
My husband has a small spot of enhancement on the tumor bed (dime sized) that they are watching. It has remained "grossly unchanged" on every scan since his surgery in October '08. His neuro onc is not sure if it is tumor, necrosis, or how he healed.  They are not looking at surgery at this point. If it changes, then I suppose we will be looking at what ...
I think it's really important that everyone feel safe here. Even if someone is wildly upset, let's remember what's probably going on in his or her life. And by the way, if I ever write anything thoughtless, please send me a private message and I will be glad to straighten up! I agree that in principle it's good not to take stuff personally but once in a while when ...
Dear Gr8ful, It does sound very normal. I know that it takes longer and the journey is more winding and loopy than most of us could have ever imagined. If you just can't get past that one image and that one moment though, you might benefit from a little compassionate counselling. I was stuck for a long time on the post-op agony of my son. Even though he couldn't even remember it, and was doing better and better, I was stuck. My...
Never heard of this. When my husband had progression it was clear with contrast even when he was on Avastin. I'd go with the Duke guy and the NS. Anyone else you can ask. What does radiologist say? Take care, Peace, JMB
I have heard that Avastin restricts the blood flow to the tumor and that it may be there but isn't getting blood so therefore can't be seen. I wish I could remember where I read that.
I agree with Chessie. PET scans check things on the cellular level and reveal activity or lack thereof. We went to Duke for treatment and that's what they ordered. Good luck and take care. janni
I'm no doc, but I was put on 16mgs decadron a day just to prevent headaches prior to my second surgery last spring, and I wasn't even presenting the way your sister is. As the others said, don't hesitate to play around with the dex a bit. It can't hurt her anymore than she's already hurting. I have had that headache. The agony! My heart goes out to you. I'm an old-timer here. Been reading and posting for over 2...

I think it's just human nature to want to know the "why" of what is happening to us. Certainly knowing why is not going to change the course of treatment or probably even the eventual outcome, but it helps explain things to us. We have had a number of farmers from Nebraska as patients and a few firefighters. We feel there is a definite connection to the use of chemicals in these professions that can have an effect...
I wish I had an answer for those questions. Martin has memory loss and confussion also. He has one more dose of Temodar and I hope those side effects leave. His dr.'s have said the side effects could go away or stay forever and we won't know until later. Sorry I am not much help good luck kozyyak
Rob spent his childhood on farms and by profession was an electrician. Both of these are suspected of being areas of high incidence of brain cancer. Don't know if other cancers as well. I hope someday they will figure it out and the only thing we can do at this point is help fright on a personal level for a safer work environment and overall environmental issues particularly in the farming industry and the green movement...
