No way to do it for OS 4.5. The API offers classes (as you already noticed) for OS 4.6 and above. So if you'd like to use this option you have to skip the support for OS 4.5.
Another option would be to have different versions of the same applications:
- one for OS 4.5 without status indicator
- one for OS 4.6 and above with status indicator

Hi all,
I'm writing a java application in Blackberry JDE 4.5 that will start listening for some event at the start up. I want to display a small icon at the status bar.
I know its support in version 4.6.0 of the BlackBerry API set with ApplicationIcon, ApplicationIndicator and ApplicationIndicatorRegistry classes but which classes are there in BlackBerry JDE 4.5.0 API set ?

Because this functionality is inside the OS, but it is not open to third-party developers (at least not before OS 4.6) I wish I had access to the core OS API I would create the perfect software
