Short backstory, got an abscess from a dead tooth Last saturday. Thursday I got antibiotics. The dead tooth is my front bottom one and the abscess is under my tongue. Went to the dentist Friday and he wants me to see an endodontist. Got appt tomorrow. First of all, the swelling hasn't gone down at all and since its in a weird place, under the tongue, its very uncomfortable. Can't put my tongue ...

I'm surprised you have to wait so long. If you are in pain you need to see someone as soon as possible, particularly if the infection is not being helped by the antibiotics. If it is on the inside of your mouth it could spread your salivary glands as they are quite close to that area. If you start getting swollen lymph nodes in your throat go to the doctor for stronger antibiotics. I ...

I think it might be best to try to open and drain the tooth if someone can get a chance. If the swelling is that severe sometimes incising and draining the swollen area might be a consideration. There is a concern if the infection spreads downwards and affects the neck as what develops in Ludwig's Angina . Try to see someone as soon as possible and make sure the dentist knows how bad the ...

Thank you for your replies. I also feel that it should be taken care of within a relatively short amount of time. I go in to the specialist in about an hour so when he sees it, he should be able to determine if it should be done sooner than June! If he can't do it, I am tempted to start calling around and see if I can get in sooner at someones elses place. However my dentist did say that this is...

Do let us know how things work out. It would be nice to find out how large that swelling is since when you mentioned that you could not lower your tongue, I kind of imagined golf ball sized!
