If you want an entertaining period piece, you could do a lot worse than attend Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol.
A Christmas Carol should be as cosy and familiar as piping-hot tea and buttered, toasted crumpets, not a brain-battering sensory assault that feels like downing tequila shots on a rollercoaster.
At its best, this ...
I've never gone to see any of Zemekis's other 3D films at the theater and I've never seen any of them at home all the way through. I've either been too turned off by the story or the CG to find it entertaining. But this I am definitely going to go see. Its the first time where I'm going to see a stylistically realistic CG film that I would have gone to see even if it was not CG. Does that ...

Technically, if he shrank, his skin would give off warmth quicker than his body could generate. As surface shrinks with ^2 and body mass with ^3. He would die of cold.
...But the voice is annoying .
Bob and Co. are definitely getting better at making these Mocap films. I did enjoy the film - the stereo3D, lighting and camera work all excellent, although I also liked the rendered look of Beowulf. The way the story is told also seemed rather fresh and inventive.
That said, some of the characters still seem to lack that certain "something". I'm not entirely sure what that something is, but ...

The critic's point about Scrooge being miniaturized does bother me a little when I see it in the trailers because it doesn't seem to fit in with the other literary and film iterations I'm accustomed to.
I totally agree with you about this. I dont remember him shrinking at all, so when i saw it I couldn't figure out where they got ...
So saw the movie. Here are my thoughts:
I am not sure why, but there was one too many fly though shots which made me a little sick watching it in 3d.
There was this imbalance between some characters looking hyper real and some looking fake real and that made me feel uncomfortable watching it.
I did like lighting and the effects - so congrats to the team.
The story is the same so ...
Went to see it last night with the wife, overall I'd say the film was a decent showing. There were some moments where it just didn't feel right or the CG felt rather lacking and other times where the secondary characters animation or acting felt really dismal. The one shot that stood out as the most strange for me was [ SPOILER - Click to reveal ] Spoiler: near the end when Scrooge enters...
It was fairly enjoyable, although I felt the people were almost a step back from Beowolf.
Only the Ghost of Christmas Present and Scrooge's wife looked half realistic.
I mean none of the characters stood up to Sid from Final Fantasy and that was made almost 10 years ago:

The first time he did it the entire theatre just had this awkward silence to it and the couple sitting beside us were muttering "is this for real? this just looks awful". The second time he had his little tick...
I think that I could see scraps of a very poignant movie ... some astonishingly good staging, especially in Future. There were heart-ripping scenes there, like Tiny Tim (lying in state) represented only by a shadow, and Bob Cratchit looking (an invisible) Scrooge straight in the eye on the stairway, before walking right through him. Brilliant! And it could only have been done in CG. But that movie, wherever it was, was utterly ripped apart by...

I think that it has less to do with Avatar and more to do with maximizing profitability. I realized a while back that almost all Christmas films come out in early November which seems absolutely insane, but if you think about it from a...

since Jurassic park era my point of view toward cg movie might kinda biased, but here is my 0.02$ I find this movie quite entertaining, not for light hearted of course, but obviously this movie is made for younger audience. the facial animation is much better than beowulf, yet of course i dont expect photo-likeness thing. even in beowulf , i dont see them try to attempt photo-copy a real thing, but more to - illustrate the reality in their...
