The people he worked with said they heard him make numerous radical remarks. I wonder why all his remarks were just ignored. I don't believe he did this just because he didn't want to be deployed. I believe it was a terrorist act based on his actions and what he said where he worked before going there.

Being educated in the mental health field doesn't stop someone from losing touch w/ reality when they know they are about to be deployed to a land of war. I don't think that (and I know you didn't say it did) has ANYTHING to do w/ someones race or education... ppl lose their grasp on reality all the time.
