A negative review from David Edelstein in NEW YORK MAGAZINE... If there’s one thing that can pack an art-house cinema, it’s the prospect of watching a pretty English teenager deflowered by a predatory older man, the whole dramatic striptease framed as an “educational experience.” Encourage the press to proclaim the leading actress the new Audrey Hepburn and the come-on is, as the Brits like to ...
For what it is worth, I don't really like the book "Blood Meridian" much either. I, too, think McCarthy's later books are much better. Or, at least, much more to my tastes. The Guardian review is encouraging. I am going to see the film anyway, I guess. I am now pretty curious. I wonder if reaction is going to continue to be mixed.
Maybe this will be another film that splits critics and viewers with its adaptation, just like Revolutionary Road??? I absolutely loved The Road as a book. It was pretty amazing and I'm definitely looking forward to the film. Having said that, maybe I, like other fans of the book, am setting myself up to be disappointed when the film comes out and its no where near as great as I envisioned it ...
I agree with 24fanatic, I am also pretty good at separating a book from a movie, they are two totally different things and you have to take each one based on their own merits. I think that is a problem for some people.
These likely are Friday night estimates, which can change somewhat by Sat AM. The 3 and 4 day guesses, particularly in terms of ultimate order, could be quite a bit off. But it is such a minor weekend that no one will care much. Ing B has an outside chance to retake the #1 spot. 1. Final Destination 3-D (WB) Wk 1 [3,121], $3.5M Fri, 3-day $11.5M, 4-day $14M 2. All About Steve (Fox) NEW [2,251] ...

Beauty and the Beast: I have seen the movie before a handful of times and have always considered it the only movie that could have beat "The Silence of the Lambs" and I wouldn't have objected. After watching it again for quite some time, I must say that it was an amazing effort not just for an animated movie but just a movie in general. You can see why it got that Best Picture nomination ...
Fame: Being a Theatre major, I definitely can understand and "get" this movie and I tend to enjoy it more and respect it more with each viewing. ****SPOILERS**** My only qualms with the film would be that there are some structure problems involving the people the movie focuses on. Some are shown a lot while some are very underused to the point where you don't even know who they are when they...

(Diane Keaton comes to mind with Annie Hall, Manhattan, Reds, and the Godfather I&II and maybe even Manhattan Murder Mystery) Faye Dunaway - I think she had a slam dunk trifecta in Chinatown, Bonnie and Clyde, and Network...
The industry screening I saw Dreamgirls at (in LA) also loved it. I came back and wrote here that I didn't think it was a lock for a best picture nomination, and was generally scorned for a while.
There are actors who have both, with a combination of screen presence, charm, timing, charisma, as well as being terrific craftsmen/women. Rachel Weisz, Laura Linney, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Cusack, and many others. I certainly prefer their performances , over what I have seen from Jennifer Aniston, and also Janeanne Garafolo and Jennifer Garner. I cant decide whether Bullock's perf in TBS was a stretch or not. But she was convincing. This...

We're livin' the crazy, free-wheelin' days of ten nominees. Everybody is in!

Hairy-chested design guru Tom Ford may have learned how to sew a seam straight when he ran Gucci, but that doesn’t qualify him to direct movies. Fashion is not film, and A Single Man, his debut...

The industry screening I was at last night seemed to love it almost as much as I did (which was admittedly a lot). You mean those industry types didn't boo and jeer while their colleagues who had worked on the film were in the room?!? Shocking!

Pictures) Nine (The...
Actually, Cotillard's 'My husband makes movies," is a beautiful song written for the 1982 production. Otherwise, 'Nine' will mostly get Oscar nominations in technical categories. Forget DD-L and especially, especially Rob Marshall. This message has been edited. Last edited by: trans_lux73 , December 09, 2009 11:41 AM

It's absolutely gorgeous, enthralling, fascinating, moving, and entertaining. Marion Cottillard steals the show with a heartbreaking wonderful performance. Judi Dench and Penelope Cruz live up to all their Oscar hype and Daniel...
