Go here for detailed information http://www.cartech.com/ssalloysprod.aspx?id=2020 There is no ASTM equivalent for this alloy. As far as an alternative alloy to UNS S35500, this is not an easy solution because it is application specific. You need to first obtain the technical information above and compare with alternative Cr-Ni-Mo steels or consider upgrading to a Ni-base alloy.

Thanks metengr. What about ASTM A 705 Grade 634. My application is a pressure vessel . I have to have forgings in sheel and dish form. Kindly advice. Regards Moiz Khan

safiamoiz; Indeed, this material falls under Grade 634 in ASTM A 704. However, this material is not suitable for pressure retaining use in pressure vessels, only general use. Instead, if you need a PH stainless steel you can use ASTM A 704 Grade 634 (17-4 PH) for this application because it is a code approved material for ASME Section VIII, Div 1 pressure vessel application.

Dear metengr ASME SA 705 grade 634 is a ASME allowed pressure vessel material . See ASME Section II A for reference for Class NB - Class I pressure vessel material.(However, 704 does not exist, i thing it is a typographic error)

( This alloy is currently produced for only one application, a military helicopter control blade. Availability may thus be an issue. , )

mamoizkhan; Yes, Thank you. However, Grade 630 material is not permitted for use in Section VIII, Div 1 vessels or Section I, only Section III.
