I'm trying to revive a computer that has an ATI Radeon 9800 AGP 8X card in
it. I'm building it to watch Hulu on my LCD TV. What's a video card that's
faster than this that will fit in my AGP 8X slot?
Best bet, is to go to new egg and just check out all the agp cards they have. It's going to be more expensive since the standard is pci-e. They have over 40 choices though. just pick something that can give you hdcp playback. so any card from about $50 on.

I don't need HD playback though. The trouble I'm having is that because
it's old technology, I can't find much info on the hierarchy of AGP 8X
cards. I'm looking for a card that is better than what I have, that will
run Hulu videos smoothly, and doesn't cost too much. I can't justify
spending too much since I'm only trying to make things work with what I
have.

you may need to upgrade the processor on the mainboard over the card. my 10' mini laptop plays hulu ok, what kills it is the 900mhz processor. A couple of years ago, the 9800 was a great card. look into the processor and let us know. i know my old AIW card is still good.

That was the first thing I've done: I upgraded the 2.5Ghz P4 to the 3.4Ghz Prescott. For the Socket 478, there is nothing better than what I've got in there. I believe it's got 2 or 4GB of RAM. The tower practically has no applications installed hogging the RAM or CPU usage. I think upgrading the video card will make Hulu run smooth.
Surprisingly, my laptop with the Core Duo T2500 at 2Ghz ...

did you check the PSU? if not then a decent agp card would be this one . AGP isn't as efficient a tech as pci-e so it's definitely outdated, but about $50 is a good price for agp. This one is not bad either.
Re: AGP 8X Video Card Correction there. It usually plays fine, but sometimes it's choppy. It's as if something like McAfee is running in the background scanning the computer, using CPU and RAM resources. I'm not using any web browser, but using Hulu desktop. I don't know how Hulu desktop is made, whether it uses Flash or what. I also don't know if the videos that Hulu broadcasts have variable bitrates, which would...
