Thread: 8mm oil pump to 6mm case?

Is there a prescribed method for mating an oil pump which has the spacing for 8mm studs to a case sporting 6mm studs? I understand the 6mm/8mm studs/holes are not concentric so that it's not just a question of tapping for 8mm studs... The 8mm oil pump I just took off was attached by three 6mm/8mm step studs and one 6mm straight stud; I'm guessing that the reason step studs weren't used on...

Sounds like a seriously screwed up pump/cover...someone had no clue. When the studs grew to 8mm they used a larger pattern, that shared the same dimension between the edge of the stud and pump body...whether it was 6/8 the inside edge of the stud is in the same location. To use an 8mm pump on a 6mm case is no-problem if the case hasn't been screwed with...use a 6mm cover and life ...

It never looked quite right and the gobs of old silicone protruding from the back of the pump body were always a hint that a bodge job was in the history somewhere. Luckily, with the pump removed, the case side is in good shape with a smooth mating surface and tidy 6mm bores....
