Thread: '85 Blazer 2 door 4x4 2/2 drop & stock shocks?

Started 1 month ago by Black P-38
Hey guys, Just looking to bring my '85 4x4 Blazer down from the clouds a li'l. My tire diameter is currently 28" gonna be 27". I want to keep the stock black plastic fenderwell trim which makes the opening about a half inch smaller all around. Based on that and maintaining some extra clearance for the bumpy gravel road I drive every day I've decided a 2/2 drop will work best for now. I got...

x2 My truck is 3" lower in front and no problems. With lowering blocks your rear shocks remain in the same location, so no issues there.

Stock rear shocks are fine with drop blocks but if you ever go to drop leafs just get some ZQ8 spec rear shocks I have 4" blocks and use stock shocks, but in the front I'm down 3"-3.5" and I use GMC Syclone spec bilstein shocks.

Good info! Thanks for the benefit of your experience!!! Life as a gearhead is SO much easier these days. The savings of time and money through the experience of others is excellent!!! I live in a small town so coming across the info and personal experiences that's available here wouldn't happen... I love this site!!! Thanks S10.com!!! Mike

I call bullshit on stock shock, I have lowered multiple 4wd s-series and if stock shocks are retained, the valving in the shock is off at the new height, it may work ok but the rebound is not the same. There fore it is a bouncier ride which is not that noticeable on a straight road but as soon as you hit a corner somewhat hard and there is a disturbance in the road the truck can get squirrelly....

With drop blocks on the rear the shock position does not change.

I got the drop blocks and rear shocks installed, glad I only went with 2 inch. Yep, the rear shock length doesn't change since the distance from the mounts to the u-bolt plate remains the same. The only effect is the upward relocation of the axle. I hit a big dip on the way home and bottomed on the snubber so even a 2" drop means I need to cut it down. I think a rear sway bar will help...

Well I still haven't cranked down the T-bars, been busy and/or dodging downpours here in the rainforest of the Pacific Northwest. I figured I'd post a few before pics... As you can see she's sportin' the 4 by stance, not a bad lookin' '85 though 'eh? Stay tuned for the after shots, Mike
