I have a 42" full HD tv in my room which I want to put 5.1 surround sound with.
My budged is around $150 AUS
Although I do own decent quality headphones I think I've got far from Audiophile like hearing some of you guys seem to have. {Although I still do cringe when my girlfriend voluntarily uses her origional iPod headphones ;( }.
I'll try and give as much detail as possible.
My room is...
A friend of mine has the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 system and it sounds great. If the X540 is remotely comparable, it should sound pretty good.
You can't connect the MP3 player's headphone jack to the Logitech's headphone jack because the latter is an OUTput, not an INput. According to page 4 of the X540's owner's manual, you'll need to go from the player's headphone jack to the green-coded ...
Yeah thats the thing, according to Logitechs website the X540s are $199 the z-5500's are $799 so I'd hardly say they're compareable. Wow, I appreciate that you've actually read into the owners manual to find this info for me So does that mean there is NO way I will ever be able to play my MP3 through the logitech speakers ? Because as much as I love the features and price that is necessary ;( I...

I was suggesting not that the X540 would sound as good as the Z-5500 but that, if Logitech put a similar effort into designing it as it did into designing the Z-5500 - and didn't just "throw something ...
yeh about comparing the x540s to the z-5500s if that kinda came out a little harsh it wasn't meant to. haha well I wish I could help out the forum myself but I dont know much about audio....road cycling, bmx, mtb, xbox or motocross on the otherhand and I'm your man Oh sweet, so as long as I dont have the speakers connected to the t.v. or xbox or whatever they actually connect to I'll be able to...

Good Work eljay! Helping out an Aussie friend.
Grosser, I do have a friend with one of the less expensive Logitech sets and it does sound quite good, especially for the money. Will it have the rock and roll of a proper HT? No, but here is a warning.....most guys get something in their room, use it for a few months, then say, "I need more ______". Then they find themselves at the store ...
Hey Scott, are you Australian as well ? I just realised somethin that could be pretty importnat. About a year or 2 ago I got an LG FB162 (its has printed on the front "mini home theater" system). On the front it says DIVX and Dolby Digital. Could this do the job of the home theater or multichannel reciever you speak of ? Would this work as the dolby digital reciever ? Heres a front and back ...
Nope, me and Eljay are Canucks; all the interesting people settled in Australia. Heehee.
Never could figure out why Harry Kewell always played better for the Socceroos than Liverpool. Used to also watch a lot of Aussie Rules Football as well!
Sorry, neither of your links works, but I did do a Google on the unit. From what I can see, it will play your MP3s if you use a mini jack to ...

G'day, eh?

Funny that it says Doby Digital on the front as I don't see any sort of additional speaker jacks or digital out that could be run to a separate amp. Maybe it is Dolby Digital compatable, in that it can take the Dolby Digital Stereo tracks (2.1) off of ...
Haha yeah I was thinkin about throwing a G'day Mate in there purely for your entertainment
MMM weird, I did reply to Scott Crick but for some reason it didn't post adn I cant be bothered to write it out again coz it was kinda long but anyway in the last post I wrote out a list of specs from the owners manual, turns out I was reading the WRONG LG micro home theater thing as Dad also has a ...
Hey Grosser, I am a big fan of API products, and always tell people to give Energy's a listen before they make a purchase. For a starter set of speakers, I think you're doing very well. To me, Energy is like Athena and Paradigm in "bang for buck" factor. Are they high end? No. Are they pretty good? Yes. Are they good value for the money? Yes, about the best in the industry right now (IMHO). For subs (and I have...
Yeah, what he said. Over the past few years, I've bought plenty of used speakers for myself and for my friends: - Athena AS-B1.1; - Energy S10.3 subs (two of 'em); - Paradigm Monitor 7, Monitor 3, Mini Monitor, 7se, 5se MkII, 5se, Atom, ADP-370, CC-370, CC-290 and CC-170. Some I demo'd, some I purchased "sight unseen". The only problem I've had or heard about regarding any of these speakers is one 5se...

Basically, Ive found most cheapie 5.1 HT sound systems have pretty decent workable amps, as long as you dont go full blast with them. But those systems are usually paired with really crappy dinky speakers, especially the sub woofer. You can get very good...
