Started 2 months, 2 weeks ago by carlsredssr
It finally is happening... After some delays and scheduling issues the SSR is getting 4.10 gears installed. It is a 05 six speed and I'm hoping it will improve the bottom end performance. The present performance is not terrible it just seems that 4.10 gears should have been the factory set-up. I should have it on the road by Tuesday or Wednesday...less any further delays. I will be at ...

I'll 2nd the What brand of gears question? Some on here have said American Gears makes a good gear. If I am remembering correctely I think the gears were $200 (plus install). I talked with a guy this weekend at the Ocean City, MD car show and he said he got GM 410 rears and they were $1100 retail and he paid $800. I'm still in homework mode on mine (and waiting to get back the $500/week paycut...

I remember someone on the site here actually ordered a complete rear axle assembly for the trailblazer SS (they came with the 4.10 stock!). Was about the same price as buying the GM gears and paying someone to install them.

The gears were purchased from Summit Racing. They are Motive Gears and cost $199.95 for part # MGR-GM9-5-410. My SSR is a 2005 six speed and you are right, the rear is 14 bolt and 9.5" I also researched this on our forum and decided to go with the Motive Gear ring and pinion set. I'll post the results of the installation this week....

This is why I love the feedback on this forum. I have some time to research right now (see previously mentioned paycut in earlier post) But I understand the gears will run about $200 and the install (I'm also looking for any and all advice for a TRUSTED installer near Shippensburg/Carlisle PA) should run about $700 - $800. So basically I'm looking at $1000 to get it done....paycut or not, it's gonna get the best of me very soon...
